I agree it’s ridiculous, but those things specified are the exemptions from the ‘non-essential’ category.

There’s no need for that. However if you look at the list in your photo, the header is clearly ‘Exemptions’.

I agreed the whole essential/ non essential thing is ridiculous, but don’t let that get in the way of your frothing.

Mylittlesandwich · 26/10/2020 14:23

Plants and flowers? Essential? But gardening in general non-essential?

Marmite27 · 26/10/2020 14:24

And it wasn’t me that reported you btw!

Dyrne · 26/10/2020 14:25

Whoever wrote that list is ridiculous and no wonder there’s been so much confusion. Bear in mind this is probably going to be read and actioned by someone on minimum wage trying to do this alongside their usual tasks.

For example, nappies aren’t on the “exceptions” list - does that mean they fit under another category? Probably, but how many people may read that and think “oh, better block off the nappies then”.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/10/2020 14:26

It is bizarrely specific. Laughably so. Except it isn't funny.

Spam88 · 26/10/2020 14:31

What's your point OP?

Dyrne it clearly states it's for the special buys. Nappies aren't in the special buys aisles.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/10/2020 14:31

This is your second post about this.

Dyrne · 26/10/2020 14:33

@Spam88

What's your point OP?

Dyrne it clearly states it's for the special buys. Nappies aren't in the special buys aisles.

Ah gotcha, I admit I have no idea what comes under Special Buys.

And, from all the photos of blocked off aisles on Twitter, neither do some of the Store colleagues either...

majesticallyawkward · 26/10/2020 14:34

overlooking the OPs misunderstanding here, but the 'non-essential' items could well be essential:
Stationery- kids home schooling, adults home working. It's not impossible they could need these items to do this. Same for computers.

Furniture- your bed breaks, a fairly essential item for anyone not able to sleep on the floor.

Shoes, umbrellas etc - it's autumn, and weather coming in so entirely possible these things are needed for people to be able to get out of their house.

I get what they are trying to do, I really do, but you can't just block off pretty basic things and say they're not needed! Not everyone can shop online. People/children grow (I spent a few months earlier this year unable to buy clothes for my baby after a growth spurt so he spent a good amount of time in just a nappy or hastily altered items) and things break.

TicTacTwo · 26/10/2020 15:03

Agree that essential/non-essential can be different for each individual.

If the zip on my child's coat breaks (and it's their only coat) then that's an essential. If I want to buy them a novelty Xmas jumper then that's a non-essential.

ChaChaCha2012 · 26/10/2020 16:17

This list is from Aldi. The OP is telling people it's government issued, it's not.

FallonsTeaRoom · 26/10/2020 16:22

OP seems to have problems with basic comprehension. Hmm

FinnegansWhiskers · 26/10/2020 16:27

How many threads are you going to start on this subject OP? You have been told time and again that you have totally misread the essential/non-essential list that YOU keep posting.

You are wrong. You won’t convince anyone that you’re right by posting the same nonsense on however many threads you wish to start on this subject!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/10/2020 20:05

please do not think this is the opinion of welsh mums.

Why on earth would anyone think this is the opinion of Welsh mums? Confused

Though based on this and your other near identical thread, I'm concerned people may start to think that Welsh mums are overly dramatic and very easily confused...
