What do you think about this afternoon tea?

Very much a first world problem but curious as to opinions.

If you booked a Halloween-themed afternoon tea (yes they exist; yes my DC was excited) and this was the advertised picture on their website vs the actual offering - would you feel a bit put out?

We had a good time, the food was fine (although they did initially bring us off milk for the teas) and it wasn't as expensive as some afternoon teas, especially themed ones.

But... it looks a bit rubbish compared to the pic doesn't it?

Yes!

AriesTheRam · 26/10/2020 07:13

Thats not afternoon tea that's buns on a plate

Trufflepuffpuff · 26/10/2020 07:13

It doesn't look anything like the pic, I can't see any of the same cakes in the real photo. Did the marketing photo say it was 'for illustrative purposes only' or something?! Otherwise that doesn't look right.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/10/2020 07:14

Gosh, that looks pretty crap

I’m not a fan of afternoon tea anyway though. Never sure how sandwiches and cakes and a pot of tea can be charged at about £20, it seems so much more expensive than other eating out options

Ickabog · 26/10/2020 07:17

To put it bluntly what you recieved looks crap. None of the cakes or biscuits shown in the original image were included, and the skill level btween the 2 is world's apart.

I'm not sure why you didn't complain at the time, as it's such a vastly different product than what was advertised.

pumpkinpie01 · 26/10/2020 07:17

They both just look like cakes & biscuits

Jeremyironseverything · 26/10/2020 07:18

There are only cupcakes and biscuits in the first picture so it's going to be different, but yes the decorations are a lot more elaborate in the original picture.

grafittiartist · 26/10/2020 07:18

If it was a children's/ family event then it's great.
We would have enjoyed that.

Lemonsyellow · 26/10/2020 07:21

Yes, very disappointing. It’s nothing like the advertised offering. You should have complained.

Muddybuddy · 26/10/2020 07:22

Id be disappointed with the advertised pic to be honest, as it looks like two identical cupcakes and 5 shortbread buscuits only. The meal received at least had a few different things in it

Grandadwasthatyou · 26/10/2020 07:24

Where are the beautifully iced biscuits and quite detailed fondant decorations as per the original illustration? It definitely looks like they've used a stock photo here. I wouldn't have been happy at all.
( are the eyes on one of the cakes edible?! )

Grandadwasthatyou · 26/10/2020 07:26

Just realised the eyes are in fact icing. I had originally thought they were those googly type you stick on!

Dozer · 26/10/2020 07:26

Looks fine IMO: the first pic is just 2 products, shortbread type biscuit and buns.

kursaalflyer · 26/10/2020 07:26

First picture is crisp iced biscuits and yummy cupcakes and I probably would have expected two cupcakes and two biscuits per person. The plate of gelatinous offerings in the second picture looks unappetising and disappointing. I think I would register your feelings even though it's after the event,

twobrews · 26/10/2020 07:27

The first one doesn't look like afternoon tea at all, it's just some themed cakes and biscuits.

The second one looks like regular cakes that have been hastily Halloween themed with extra decorations. Not awful as such but I can see how that would disappoint.

Mindymomo · 26/10/2020 07:28

Sorry, but that really made me laugh so thank you for that. I’ve had a few afternoon teas, none have been as advertised.

MJMG2015 · 26/10/2020 07:29

Yes, by comparison it does look a bit crap. Definitely not helped by the cheap white plate.

They both look full of bought, processed, cheap food though.

How much did they charge for it? We're the adults & childrens the same items/cost?

Most importantly what did your child think?

EerilyDeleted · 26/10/2020 07:31

Well, the advertised one isn't an afternoon tea, just fairycakes and biscuits. I'd have just assumed it was a picture of example items to be honest. The real one is more like an afternoon tea with a variety of different types of cake. Perhaps more suited to grown up tastes than the advert implies.

Danglingmod · 26/10/2020 07:34

The first picture is better presented. The second picture has more variety and is closer to an afternoon tea. I wouldn't complain.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 26/10/2020 07:35

I think it looks ok, frankly. Depends how much you paid. The jelly spider is a bit grim. Those iced biscuits are a fortune on 'NOTHS' so I'd expect an afternoon tea including those to be a pretty penny.

Purpledaisychain · 26/10/2020 07:38

The second picture is badly presented, which doesn't help.

TheArchFear · 26/10/2020 07:42

The shonky plate is baffling.

Food looks OK for a child.

SebastianTheCrab · 26/10/2020 07:43

For those saying it's not an afternoon tea - it was a 3-tier cake stand with sandwiches on the bottom plate, scones, jam and cream in the middle and the "themed" cakes on top. So very much an afternoon tea.

I don't know why I didn't say anything at the time! The place was dead (no pun intended) and I think I felt a bit sorry for them - plus my toddler went mental the minute the cakes food arrived (think Bruce the shark smelling blood in Finding Nemo) so I barely had time to register it.

It's only this morning I really thought to have a look at the photo I took vs the website. And I'm not very impressed!

That looks very unappetising!🤢

What happened to the little ghosts?
