Dreaming of being mortgage free, how old were you when you paid yours off?

We are early thirties with 2 pre school DC in nursery 4 days per week. I’ve just taken a better paying job which will hopefully lead to more progression moving forwards.
We have 32 years to pay on our £230k mortgage and it just seems so daunting! We haven’t been able to overpay as we are pretty stretched with nursery fees but now I’ve got this new job that should hopefully change.
When did you pay yours off? How did it feel?

We were both 45.
We moved North in our late 20s and were able to use the equity from our house down south to pay a big chunk off the house we now own.

With the current climate I’m really uncertain about how pension funds will perform.
I’m definitely on track to pay my mortgage off in 3 years .
Having a guaranteed roof over my head means more than anything to me

Bought at 21. Sold up and cleared mortgage at 28. Bought a boat outright. No kids.

Late 30's when the mortgages were typically 9 1/2- 12 1/2% p.a. We both had good jobs at the time and coped with minimal furnishings/electrics/Freecycle stuff and few holidays. We both chose to work away from home a lot because of the subsistence monies (overnight allowances, warm hotels with nice bathrooms etc). We were lucky we had friends with similar skinflint ambitions.

Paid mine off earlier this year when I was 39. It was a 25 year mortgage but I paid it off 9 years (to the day!) that the property sale completed. I overpaid the max 10% pretty much every year, plus additional one-off payments each time my fixed rate came to an end.

I'll be 58 if I do nothing. Plan on overpaying as much as I can to clear before 50. I'm 34 at the mo.
