I wasn’t born until 1980 but my husband is a 60s child. He’s showed me public information films from the 70s and just introduced me to the original Survivors. I saw the remake with Julie Graham? Why is everything from the 70s so much creepier?!? I’m starting to believe we are a bit softer nowadays Confused.

Born 1969. The usual out all day, lack of money, etc.
Grew up on the coast we roamed in ganges on the beaches. Flashes were commonplace and we'd throw stones at then. Also knew somehow the dodgy men in the village.

There was a collective sense of responsibility within the gang. Council estate, but rural. All the kids looked after each other.

Another thing was roaming in and out of each others houses as adults were out and never locked front doors.
Chip pan fires, one dad would get pussed and take his penis out, which we all knew and would again, throw stones at him.

The boys frequently set hay barns alight .
Women with black eyes calling in for a sup of whiskey. Domestic violence normalised.

Fiercely protective mothers.

That's very true about adults seeming older merryhouse. I think some of it is down to how they dressed. My Dad was rarely seen without a formal shirt and tie unless he was doing the gardening or something, and my Mum was usually wearing a skirt or dress with heels. Nobody middle aged wore jeans or remotely fashionable clothes. These days, my day to day clothes aren't that much different to what my 22 year old daughter wears, but back then there is no way my Mum would have considered wearing anything that my elder sister did, or vice versa. I still wear shorts in the summer, and lycra cycling kit. My Mum would have passed out at the very thought of a middle aged woman in cycling shorts, and on a bike with a crossbar too! And I don't think many "respectable" women dyed their hair. My Auntie did, and we thought she was fabulous and very glam, but my Mum and Dad definitely disapproved! Grin
I think people in their 60s and 70s seem younger nowadays than 40-50 year olds when I was a child.

There was a big generation gap between those who grew up in the war and those who were teens from the 60s onwards. People of all generations often have more similar tastes in clothes and music now.
