Can pain from a bulging disc come and go?

I’ve got a bulging disc, had it for years and then it settled down thankfully. But this week I’ve had awful pain in my back, down front of my leg and it’s so miserable. Then for two days it felt much better but today it’s back with a vengeance. Can this happen, where you get good and bad days? The pain tonight is unbearable, I can’t stand or walk. I’ve taken some diazepam which I’ve had prescribed for muscle spasm in my back, that helped for several hours but it’s worn off and the pain is back. I just don’t know what to do.

I've got a slipped disc. Some days it's agony, some days it's fine. It sucks. Keep going with the painkillers.

You’re right, it’s rubbish. What painkillers work for you?

I take co-codamol, I usually have 30/500 on prescription but I'll take over the counter 8/500 if I don't have any in.

I do only take them if I 'really' need them though 😂😂

I have 2 bulging discs which prolapsed a couple of years ago. Now, most days there’s some level of pain, occasionally nothing which is more noticeable because I’m not in pain! My doctor is amazing and prescribed me diazepam at the start of the year for those days when it’s just too much, I think I have taken 7 and have 5 left... it’s like gold dust getting that anymore, I nearly cried when she trusted me to give me that many at once! I think it’s very abused as so addictive but if you can manage to move yourself enough while they are in full effect rather than going to sleep, it has been so beneficial for. This has resulted in me taking long zombie like walks at strange hours of the day or night Confused
It’s shit though, temporarily debilitating and I sympathise.

Your pain sounds sciatic to me, if it's coming down your leg. Along with painkillers, I suggest a tens machine, alternating heat and cold and Epsom salt baths. Try and keep active by walking about

Goldistheanswer · 24/10/2020 19:37

Due to other health problems, I can’t apply any heat to my back or use a tens machine. I have tried to keep mobile today but it’s so painful.

Can you ice your back? I've found icing it very helpful for reducing the inflammation that causes the pain in my leg.
