How to diplomatically tell a sensitive and anxious person that going into MLM is a mistake

A close family member, who suffers from anxiety and depression (and who is sensitive to criticism), has joined FM products (an MLM selling "dupe" perfume and other such shite). She can't work because of her MH issues and receives disability allowance. She was recruited to "open her business" by a school friend who ditched her after she went to Uni, and now several years later is banging on about "so pleased I'm helping one of my best friends to open a business" Hmm the family member recently got £2k gift from a relative, which is great but I worry she'll sink it all into the MLM.

I've already had the cringey sales message. She's put on Facebook how she thinks this will help her anxiety and depression. How do I tactfully tell her that she will lose money and her confidence will be rock bottom before long? Also worried about how this will affect her disability allowance. She's really prone to getting upset and it will devastate her whatever I say so I need to do a bit of damage limitation. I'm really worried for her Sad

Has anyone listened to a podcast on BBC sounds called The Missing Cryptoqueen? This was about someone (now disappeared) who'd set us a new cryptocurrency. This was basically run as an MLM. People have individually sunk hundreds of thousands into this new currency all over the world. the owners and high level marketers made millions.

@everythingisginandroses as bsintolerant says, it’s only when you watch the industry and certain bots over time that the contradictions and lies become obvious. This is a perspective we have that the people signing up right now or desperately plugging away at it can’t see, because they just aren’t standing back from it. As we speak there are people under bankruptcy order thanks to their involvement with an MLM. For a short while it was all private schools and Range Rovers; now its all over and they are in dire straits, but they’re still selling the dream and people are falling for it. If only those people would stand back and watch these MLM “successes” for 365 days, they’d soon see what an illusion the success is.

@Candleabra yes that was a very interesting podcast. There is another podcast called The Dream which is a history of pyramid schemes up to the present day with interesting contributions from people like Robert FitzPatrick. In one episode one of the team signs up to Limelife by Alcone and her experiences are grim.

@YouokHun thanks I'll look out for that one. The scary thing is how successful they were at the psychology (brainwashing). A lot of people interviewed didn't heed anyone's advice even in the face of overwhelming evidence. I guess you also get to a point where you've invested your time, money and reputation that it's too hard to admit that it's all a sham.

@barberousbarbara just watched that video it's great, very shocking when she shows the "structure"!

Thanks all, I'm going to message her mum with that video, some blogs and some facts and say if she wants to chat with her great but I'm happy to do it also.
