Bit of a gruesome question re: dead body

Have spent the last half an hour googling to no avail.

My mum died suddenly at home last month and we got to spend a very peaceful few hours with her body before she was taken to the coroners.

The tube she was intubated with was left in but there was another bag that was attached to her [or inserted? I can't recall the exact logistics]. My sister said the paramedics had said it was to collect the contents of her stomach. What would this be called? Is it something they do after death?

I cannot find any information about this online at all?

I'm not at all distressed or upset about this, i'm finding having all the medical info quite comforting.

Any info appreciated.

We're was the bag attached?

Sorry for your loss.

From your description, it's likely to be an OG tube (orogastric). Many ambulance trusts don't know strictly intubated, but use similar equipment called an igel and an OG tube is often used alongside. During CPR, some air will go into the stomach and the tube allows it to come out and make compressions more effective

Thank you so much. This seems to be exactly what it was.

Good to have an answer / know the reason!!

Makes perfect sense now.
