Four of us, dds age 13 ( a young 13) and 15. They respectively want something romantic and something funny. We like old films but could be anything, not violent or overt sex stuff.
My mind has gone blank !

Came on to say Some Like it Hot but beaten to it!

Not funny, but Lion in Winter is my fav.

Gone with the Wind and settle in for the long haul?

SirVixofVixHall · 24/10/2020 19:49

Some Like it Hot and Gone with the Wind definitely for the next couple of weeks .
I haven’t seen The Lion in Winter since I was a child, think that is worth a watch too.
We are in full lockdown here and so there will be a lot of films needed.
Most enjoyed by all recently - North by Northwest , Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire and Bringing up Baby.

A Good Year! Brilliant cheer up film

legalalien · 25/10/2020 10:21

Phildelphia Story and His Girl Friday (massive Katharine Hepburn fan)

It's a Wonderful Life (too christmassy?)

Just seen that The Pallisers is on youtube - hours of entertainment ahead! And a Horseman Riding By, which I had completely forgotten...

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 25/10/2020 10:29

Isn't it romantic. It is on Netflix I think

SirVixofVixHall · 25/10/2020 10:33

Oh I LOVED. A Horseman Riding By .... can still sing the theme tune.
We watch It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve every year, family tradition.
His Girl Friday definitely one we will be watching this week.

You’ve got mail is lovely!

legalalien · 25/10/2020 10:36

btw meant to mention the Forsyte Saga, which is what led me to the others - 1967 version on youtube (haven't watched the remake - too fixed in my idea of what the characters are like)...

SirVixofVixHall · 25/10/2020 10:36

Older films seem to work well for this age group as they can be mature and intelligent in content but don’t have too much violence or sex.

Have they seen ‘flipped’ on Netflix OP?
Gorgeous film!!

poorbuthappy · 25/10/2020 10:44

Loved Peanut Butter Falcon

LolalovesLondon · 25/10/2020 10:46

About time, the holiday, the best of me are all on Netflix.

LolalovesLondon · 25/10/2020 10:49

‘Once more’ on Amazon is good too.

myhobbyisouting · 25/10/2020 10:52

I don't like any of the films you like so maybe my suggestions won't be for you but...

Serendipity
Big
Honey I shrunk the kids

Mollscroll · 25/10/2020 10:53

The 39 Steps is always a winner.

LolalovesLondon · 25/10/2020 10:59

North and South !

peppermintteadrinker · 25/10/2020 12:53

If we're talking proper old films then Hitchcock is good. Not Psycho! Something like rear window or vertigo which is on Netflix just now

legalalien · 25/10/2020 12:58

12 Angry Men one of my favourites, maybe not enough action for teens though. And To Kill a Mockingbird, although probably sounds too educational.

Roman Holiday? To Catch a Thief?

SirVixofVixHall · 25/10/2020 13:08

Loved Roman Holiday and the 39 Steps. We will watch to Kill a Mockingbird, DH and I have seen it, but dds haven’t yet.
Watched Rear Window a week or two ago and they really enjoyed it. Also Spellbound. I think Vertigo might be a bit too frightening for dd2.
Dd1 Would like Serendipity I think.
To Catch a Thief yes, that is on the to watch list. I like Strangers on a Train but again it might be too frightening for dd2.
12 Angry Men a good idea.
I am also thinking Mr Smith Goes to Washington would be good.

I did get to see Rear Window in the cinema about twenty years ago and the difference on a big screen ! It was even more tense and gripping.
