Childcare for labour in tier 2

A few people have told me this has always been an exception even in lockdown but what exception would it come under? It's not really a childcare bubble as it's a one off and not a consistent arrangement, but it would be one other household ie grandparents looking after toddler while I'm in labour so DH can be a birth partner

We're ok about it if this isn't permitted, I'm quite prepared for it, although a bit worried as a c section may also be on the cards and I'm concerned about a longer stay and also the recovery as DH can't take paternity leave really although obviously will need time off while I'm actually in hospital to look after DC1

I understand all the rules but my only moan really on a side note is no family have expressed any interest at all in how I'm getting one and whether it might be a bit tougher than usual labouring alone and not having any support with the two DC immediately after the birth, the only thing they ever mention is that they feel sad they won't get the same experience of visiting etc afterwards!

Anyway that's besides the point, is there any exception for labour/c section childcare or shall I just draw a line under it and prepare to go in alone? (At least I won't need to worry about packing snacks for DH!)

"How I'm getting on" that should say. I suppose I secretly want someone to just say "how are you?"

Probably posted a bit late last night but does anyone have any understanding re the guidelines on this?

Of course it's permitted. I'll be looking after my grandson when my daughter has her baby next month

Childcare is allowed, don’t worry.

As this is not your first child, I would plan on leaving hospital asap after birth. I wish I had with my second, I thought I would just stay one night, which turned into two nights. By then I couldn’t wait to get home.

Thank you. What does this exception come under in tier 2? Is it help to a vulnerable person? Or childcare bubble? (But doesn't that need to be a regular arrangement for work purposes?)

Would love to leave straightaway after birth if I can but it is possible I'll need c section (hopefully not) so could be slightly longer. Even then will try and get out as soon as I can but also conscious that with DH back at work as soon as I get back it might be tricky looking after toddler and baby on my own immediately just from what I've heard about c sections. I'm sure I'll be ok though

Does anybody know where this is stated as an exception? Lots of people have told me it's allowed, I think they are right, but lots have also said it's against the rules

I'd just like to know where/under what exception it's referred to for reassurance really

If parents feel that they are uncomfortable with it for any reason though, that's fine. They have questioned whether it's permitted but I don't think that's because they don't want to as until now had been very keen and suggested it

I’d say it was urgent medical treatment, but why do you need to specify the exception? No-one is going to call the Covid police in these circumstances!

In the unlikely case of the grandparents being questioned, they can honestly state that the child's mother is in hospital.

Notquitealockdownbaby · 23/10/2020 14:46

True

Judging by our local Facebook group we would absolutely be reported for this kind of thing!

Yes it’s permitted/ you are allowed childcare (paid or non paid) for children under 13. My sister will have my 3 year old, I’m due in 2 weeks in tier 2. Honestly OP no one would see anyone get in trouble for this.

I wouldn't worry, even if some batshit rule comes in around it, you don't really have much choice.
