Any other teachers been told to come in despite isolating?

DD was sent home from nursery with a temp, told to isolate for 10 days. DP is a secondary teacher and has been told he has to go in. He only has one lesson and will be sitting with other teachers in the staff room for the other two periods. The classrooms are taken up with key workers' children hence teachers having to sit together in the staff room. Yes it's unlikely he has covid but surely this is bad advice coming from a school? Is this common?

Yes the rules are that whole household should self isolate while household members waits on test result but not all schools seem to be following the rules.
There are 3 adults in my household who each work in different schools - myself and dbro in primary schools, dh in secondary. Dh and my own school are following the guidelines.. Dbros school say to only stay off if the household member result comes back positive - dbro is a sub on his first year out teacher so he can't really argue with them but feels it put him in a really difficult situation as he's worried he could potential spread it if he goes in. (Ds 2.5 has been tested 3 times already thankfully 2 were weekends the 3rd he got a test that afternoon and results were back at 6am the following morning so dbro could go to work guilt free)

@Reclinehard

Key workers' kids are in because 3 year groups are at home isolating.
Bizarre! Where we have sent bubbles home as they may have come into contact with a positive case, they are all self isolating!

Of course he should be isolating until her results come back; he lives with her!

Yes I understand the rules. Don't understand why a school is making my DP break them. Like pp situation, he is an NQT so doesn't feel comfortable arguing. I don't know what to do.

That sounds like a school that needs reporting.
Not making ‘key worker’ kids isolate.
And telling staff they can’t isolate.
This is not following phe advice at all.

Reclinehard · 22/10/2020 22:26

Who to report to?

My husband went for a test and I (a teacher) was told to have a think about whether I really needed to isolate with him as was ii likely he had it, I did isolate but what a ridiculous thing to say! I know of 2 other teachers in different school whose little ones have been sent for tests and they have been told to come in and probably nothing, kids pick up coughs and colds so the chances are it's nothing. Shocking!

The DFE have a covid advice line. Call them and report the school.

They should not be requiring him to go in and they should not have key worker children in if a bubble is isolating.

Whoever is in charge at that school needs to be told.

Bowerbird5 · 22/10/2020 22:44

OP tell him to contact his union.

Reclinehard · 22/10/2020 22:50

Thanks for the advice and yes that's shocking. Feel really sorry for teachers, something needs to be done.

I'm a teacher, I've just had covid. My DCs isolated after I got my result. So I was in the position where I was due back in school but my DCs still had 2 days of isolation to do. My boss asked me if there was anyone else who could have my DCs for those 2 days....🤦🏼‍♀️

WorraLiberty · 22/10/2020 23:00

Did he make it absolutely clear that your DD is awaiting her test result?

I'm just wondering because even you didn't mention that in your opening post?
