Dehumidifier question

Darkestseasonofall · 22/10/2020 15:31

I've just bought a dehumidifier, and have a daft question.
My main aim is to dry clothes, but my utility room has no door, it leads onto the kitchen. Am I better using it in this open plan space, or should I bung the clothes rail in the downstairs loo and close the door? My worry is that the energy would be wasted sucking up the water from the loo bowl, even with the lid down.
Thanks in advance

To those talking about cost to run, could you specify the type of price range of your humidifier?
Mine was around £134, passed down to us, called ecoair
Just moved into damp old house and I'm broke would appreciate the help!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/10/2020 20:02

Ours was around that @lemonandlimes2 It's definitely not expensive to run, I have ours on a lot and I'd have noticed if the electric bill had jumped.

I got both of ours from Lidl last year for about £120 each. I bought one and then went back the following day to get another for upstairs!
Ours is fabulous and we can set it to different levels of humidity if we want to.
I just have to try and remember to turn it off if I am opening the windows as it doesn’t need to be running then.

Hi All. Have just come across this thread and hoping for some help. Looking into buying one and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation please?

I'll be using it mostly for drying clothes and I'm living in a three bed house that's a bit prone to the odd bit of mould.

I've had a lidl one for 6 years. We use it daily in the winter and stops all condensation on the windows.

Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier, Ideal For Condensation www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HO963A6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_OIsEYWtmsCCG6?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

We have had this one for two years. Bought to dry washing and it’s brilliant. Wouldn’t be without it now. We use in utility room with the door closed.

It might depend on the house and the model. We have a very damp old mill house and borrowed a dehumidifier. It sent our electricity bill through the roof.

Thanks so much. Definitely want something not too hard on electricity. There are so many different ones., it's hard to pick.

I love my dehumidifier and have it running 24/7 at the moment.
It costs £5.76 per week to run.
