Just had a voicemail from "HMRC" threatening to issue a warrant if I don't press 1

I hate these. I know it's a scam so actually I'm quit glad I missed the call, but it sounded quite threatening.
Phone number was 02036644916

@Devlesko

They wouldn't call you. I've had it and it's a SCAM. Don't press the button, can cost thousands if you do.
I’ve had a genuine call from HMRC (it was almost 20 years ago), at 6am one morning. I felt ‘raided’.

I was a SAHM and had no income, so nothing to worry about - but I did worry. Once I explained myself, they were very nice and walked me through what I had to do to get ship-shape.

janetmendoza · 22/10/2020 16:00

Yup me too

BrigitsBigKnickers · 22/10/2020 16:00

I had one from HSBC claiming to be the fraud dept- needed authorisation for a payment of £499. No such purchase had been made. Put the phone down and called the bank and of course it was bogus.

I always put the phone down and call the bank back in these circumstances.

scoobydoo1971 · 22/10/2020 16:05

I had a call to the landline the other day. We never use it so knew it was going to be dodgy. Microsoft support no less...saying my computers were being hijacked and my family would not be able to use windows or the internet unless a 'technical fee' was paid by credit card...so I went along with it, and congratulated him on finally having achieved the ultimate solution in my house to get my kids to talk to me again :-)

Erm... don't do that straight away. It is possible that the scammers haven't cut the original call, they are controlling your line and you will find yourself speaking to a scammer and not your bank. Ring someone else in between, or use a different phone.
Ylvamoon · 22/10/2020 16:14

Grin I had the same call... I asked if I could ring them back... they didn't even answer, just put the phone down... 🤷‍♀️

Stinkyjellycat · 22/10/2020 16:14

I just got one too! Bloody scammers.

PollyPelargonium52 · 22/10/2020 16:16

I have call blocker for unknown numbers plus numbers withheld. Bliss.

DeliciouslyFemale · 22/10/2020 16:16

It’s ok OP. I’ll pay what you owe, once I get the inheritance from that distance royal relative in Africa. It shouldn’t take much longer, now that I’ve given them my bank details.

I have had one myself, was just ridiculous, I reported it through Gov.uk there is an email address to report it.

Janevaljane · 22/10/2020 16:19

I have a call blocker thing, its marvellous

3catsandadog · 22/10/2020 16:20

I am getting loads of these calls at the moment on mobile and landline.
Every day 1 or 2.
From Seychelles and Tonga as well.

One of the BT ones was really abusive when I said we didn't have internet!.

They have certainly increased recently!

GeorgiaGirl52 · 22/10/2020 16:30

I get one a week from Computer Repair, cancelling my contract and wanting to REFUND my payment, if only I will give them my bank account number so they can deposit it. Such nice people. But I do not have and never have had a contract because my grandson is IT and fixes it for free!

Happyheartlovelife · 22/10/2020 16:32

I've had 4 of these in the last few days.

It's a scam

Dreading2020sSeasonFinale · 22/10/2020 16:33

I love these calls when they have a real person on the other end. I can drag that shit out FOREVER!

There's few pleasures in life like leading a scammer on and on until they pretty much explode with rage when you call them on their bullshit after wasting a load of their time.

Happyheartlovelife · 22/10/2020 16:34

@porridgecake

I've had 4. Yet I don't do the tracing. So it's not that I don't think. Though anyone can hack data

Happyheartlovelife · 22/10/2020 16:35

This is where you report them

www.actionfraud.police.uk/

ListeningQuietly · 22/10/2020 16:37

I always try to hold them on the line as long as I can.

Every second they are listening to my ramblings they are not able to scare a vulnerable person.

Happyheartlovelife · 22/10/2020 16:38

My best one was when they told us our computer was hacked

Me and my husband both do this for a living. So they messed with people in the know. It was hilarious

My friend told them to wait 5 mins because he was burying his wife under the patio! They hung up. He's dragged someone along for 35 mins once! I'm surprised they didn't hang up!

Purplekitchen · 22/10/2020 16:39

I had a text message this morning.
Click on this link to get your tax rebate from HMRC , not bloody likely.

florascotia2 · 22/10/2020 16:41

Utter rubbish. Block if possible and ignore and do not phone back or press anything.
I had very funny - though threatening - call a couple of years ago. It was so clearly a scam : 'send us your bank details to help us process our inheritance'. But when I played stupid and then told off the caller for preying on vulnerable/ill informed people, he got really very nasty. And said that he was a monster. And that he was coming to get me...

OccultGnuAsWell · 22/10/2020 16:41

Many "Scamazon" calls received here in the Gnu household, also a few calls with automated voices telling me that BT are severing my internet connection unless I pay many £££'s immediately.

As I'm neither with BT or have an Amazon account I ignore.

Am I right that if you press 1 to speak to someone you're connected to a premium rate line? And that's one way they make money, as well as directly from those who actually pay what is being asked.

I'd love to have either a rant or a bit of fun with whoever's called but don't want to pay to do so.

MrsDrudge · 22/10/2020 16:43

I am going to pay my HMRC tax bill, Barclays and BT, TV Licence when the promised donation of $5million dollars from a Nigerian Prince is paid into my account.

EmbarrassedUser · 22/10/2020 16:51

@Bloomburger

I got it too from an 0207 number, I asked for telephone number I could call back on to ensure they were who they said they were and they hung up.
Really? They’re automated so I doubt they spoke back to you.

They’ve been calling me regularly and all I get is a stern man telling me that there will be a warrant or something if I don’t pay 😂
