What are 14 year olds into

My nephew is 14 next week. He sent me suggestions to a ninja card thing. But there's a chance my mum is going to get him that. But I said to my mum perhaps instead I'll get him some lynx, socks, chocolate and a book maybe. Something abit more teenager than toy. She said she didn't know if he was into that stuff yet.

He's quite innocent for his age still. So he's not at all your typical teenager that grunts. (Only joking)

So it's her sort of things do you buy a 14 year old?

It gets harder every year. When I was at this age everyone was using smellies and things for grooming but that was 18 years ago.

Any suggestions?

To be honest, all the teens I know would be most grateful for money in a card. He'd be happy with your list though in fairness - although he won't read fiction so the book would only get read if it was something like guineas world records or Ripley believe it or not.

Forgot to put in that I was referring to my similar aged son! But yeah, I have lots of teen nieces and nephews and they always want cold hard cash.

ZarkingBell · 21/10/2020 13:05

Cash is king.

Lynx is a shit birthday present. You might as well say 'you smell'.

My 14 year old only likes reading and food. No interest in toiletries or clothes. He's getting chocolate, hot sauce, a weighted blanket and money for Christmas.

Sidge · 21/10/2020 13:07

Cash.

My 14 year old loves cash as she can then buy all the random shite she likes. Stuff that I can’t bring myself to buy her.

Enough4me · 21/10/2020 13:07

Cash or amazon / itunes voucher.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 21/10/2020 13:08

My nephew and his friends seem to like mooching about and wasting money on overpriced hot chocolate and pastries/doughnuts, or saving up for expensive console games, so honestly I would go with cash.

ShowOfHands · 21/10/2020 13:09

Depends on the child! I do a list for mine with links and general ideas as all teenagers are so different. For example, I have a teenage girl who is allergic to most smellies, doesn't wear make up or jewellery, reads vociferously so has covered most popular YA fiction and then some, no interest in fashion. Most of her friends like smellies, make up, clothes etc.

I consider myself pretty easy to buy for but actually generic stuff doesn't work for me (I'm teetotal so no alcohol, allergic to perfumed products) and teenagers are no different.

So, in short, ask the teenager in question or ask a parent/guardian.

I'd check firstly that Mum is buying the ninja thing if that's what he has asked for. If she isn't sure, then just tell her you are buying it.

If nothing else - cash.

Iftheclouds · 21/10/2020 13:17

Cash or game console card for points etc on games?

Floradoras · 21/10/2020 13:28

Hmm maybe cash is the way forward.

It's such a tricky/expensive age

I hated smellies as Christmas presents as a teen I’d want money or a record voucher, 80s teen. Today I love smellies and slippers ect.

AriettyHomily · 21/10/2020 13:39

Money or a voucher that does all the ships, you can get them in supermarkets

Agree - please don't buy him Lynx.
