Need a new dryer - heat pump or concenser

Hi all,

I desperately need a new tumble dryer - current one was bought for £100, is more than 10 years old and on its last legs!

DH is keen on getting a Bosch heat pump which around £750 Shock
I definitely don't want a vented one - so we have the option of either a heat pump or a condenser dryer. I only use the dryer in Autumn/Winter, so about 6 months of the year. Rest of the time I dry clothes outside. Even in the current season, I only use the dryer for things that don't fit on the clothes horse. So I really don't think we can justify £750 on a dryer!

Is Beko a good enough brand? Also, the dryer will be in the utility room, which is not heated and generally the coldest room in the house - will that make a difference?

TIA :)

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’re looking for tumble dryers, we’ve recently updated our best tumble dryer page with lots of great options rated by Mumsnet users, plus info on whether a heat pump or condenser dryer is best for your home. We hope you find it useful.

We got an AEG in September when there was stock issues and you couldn't get a Bosch

Very pleased with it.

I have a Beko heat pump one, it's great and didn't cost anything like as much as £750!

I have a regular vented one that I got for £10 off Facebook. DP has a heat pump one (he didn’t tell me how much it cost, this probably explains why! £750?!) but it means he can put all the washing in his to tumble, including t shirts, polo shirts etc whereas I have to hang that stuff up as mine will shrink it. Must be the slower drying or something, but it must make life a lot easier for him. I separate mine into hang and tumble piles, so towels and undies get tumbled, but jeans and t shirts have to hang up.

I had to get this one as every other one I wanted was out of stock.

it has a drying time of about 2hr 20 mins, some of the heat pump ones are 4 hrs!
I'm very pleased with it ao.com/product/gvsh9a2dceb-candy-grando-vita-heat-pump-tumble-dryer-black-51012-126.aspx

You can put everything into a heat pump dryer??

I might have to get one. Our condenser dryer broke over a month ago, still within the 12 month warranty period (it was only 5 months old!) and although the manufacturer are prepared to fix it, they can't get the part because of Covid. They have refunded us and I'm reading this thread with huge interest!

@MarkRuffaloCrumble Any chance of a model number for the heat pump one?

@Lat321 he sent me this - can’t quite see the last few digits of the number! But it’s a Hoover Dynamic something or other - and thankfully not £750 Grin

I have a samsung heat pump. It's great. Things might take a little bit longer to dry, but not much.

Mum2b2020 · 22/10/2020 17:50

I love my Samsung heat pump one. The room doesn't get hot or damp. You just empty the water tray after use. When you start the cycle it will say 3 hours but it has an automatic sensor so it will turn itself off (announced by a little tune it plays) usually after an hour.

I got this model from currys

SAMSUNG - DV90M50003X/EU 9 kg Heat Pump Tumble Dryer - Graphite

I love the song at the end although it did rather surprise me when I first used it!
