How to stop house smelling of cats

I have had a cat for a month, a neutered Tom if it makes any difference.
My house smells of cat and I would like to find ways to sort it before I go nose blind as by then I won’t be able to tell.
I’m changing the litter tray every other day, scooping up the poo straight away, he eats his food in one go so that’s not left around.
But when I walk in the front door I smell cat.
I’m keeping internal doors shut more than normal as he sleeps in the kitchen and hall and I don’t want him in bedrooms or living room at night so there may be an issue of the rooms not airing well but even so, I’m not sure why the house smells. I’ve got him on my knee now and he doesn’t smell, apart from his cat food breath. Any tips from cat owners? What am I doing wrong?

What do you feed? For me I found a good quality feed with high meat content (Lilly’s kitchen) helps.
It might be worth looking at different types of litter unless your sure the smell isn’t related to that

Try different types of cat litter.

Toms do smell stronger than females, though.

No idea. We have cats and I can smell the cat smell. Not sure what to do about it. They don't have a litter tray, so it's not that.

I’m feeding a mixture of big standard cat food (didn’t want him to get fussy so mixing it up a bit) so felix, whiskers, iams etc.
Could be the litter tray I guess although op says it happens to them also and doesn’t have a litter tray. The cat himself doesn’t smell though so it’s a mystery!
Thanks for suggestions, I’ll try a different litter and food

Re-home them

That would certainly work joy!
