Non-scary Halloween film?

HaggisTheGreat · 19/10/2020 21:07

We need a replacement for trick or treating this year, and primary-aged DC suggested a Halloween film. Trouble is, past experience has shown that scare factor tolerance for DC is very, very low. My mind has drawn a complete blank. Can anyone help?!

I’m doing something similar with my 6.5 year old DD. I’m leaning towards the nightmare before Christmas

vanillandhoney · 19/10/2020 21:08

The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Addams Family/The Addams Family Values.

Coldhandscoldheart · 19/10/2020 21:09

Frankenweenie, or what’s the one with jack skellington?
Or hotel transylvania? That’s more funny than scary.

Hotel Transylvania?

Figmentofimagination · 19/10/2020 22:12

Hotel Transylvania. Hocus Pocus. Haunted Mansion. Halloween Town. Nightmare Before Christmas. Coco.

If you have Disney+ they have created a Halloween playlist that includes Halloween episodes of tv shows and cartoons as well as all their Halloween movies.

DMCWelshcakes · 19/10/2020 22:14

Addams Family, Addams Family Values and the new animated Addams Family film.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 19/10/2020 22:15

Disney Haunted Mansion film

XiCi · 19/10/2020 22:18

Hocus Pocus, Hotel Transylvania, Addams Family

Newbeginningsnow · 19/10/2020 22:18

The animated Addams Family that was released last year (or the year before?) is great.

I’m begging my son to watch Hocus Pocus with me but he point blank refuses.

ET!

BashfulClam · 19/10/2020 22:35

Hocus pocus

Peasbewithyou · 19/10/2020 22:37

I have very scaredy DC who LOVE Hotel Transylvania (1, 2 & 3). We can’t even have Trolls on in this house as it’s too terrifying!

Scooby-Doo is also mostly ok - although the 4 year old is a bit scared of that one.

They all like Super-Monsters although that’s a series.

Casper the Friendly ghost is not too scary for many children (although mine couldn’t deal with it).

buttersidedown · 19/10/2020 22:37

The Addams Family from last year is on Netflix, and my 5yo is obsessed with it!!

elQuintoConyo · 19/10/2020 22:42

My 9yo can't stop "singing" the song from Addams Family cartoon - about being the same as everyone else, in Wednesday's flat voice Grin

I wouldn't suggest Caspar, it's got a really horrible storyline.

Nightmare Before Christmas.

Corpse Bride? I haven't seen it, but it's Tim Burton so I'd presume it's ok....

Edward Scissorhands?

Hotel Transylvania isn't scary.

Twilight? They sparkle Grin

Anything from SpongeBob.

Kanaloa · 19/10/2020 22:56

Maybe Casper Meets Wendy? It has a little girl witch and Casper the friendly ghost, lots of funny bits and all mine like it.
Monster House is really good and fun.
Double, Double, Toil and Trouble with the Olsen twins.
The first Harry Potter is quite Halloweeny but there are some scary bits, especially at the end.

Kanaloa · 19/10/2020 22:57

Also maybe the old Scooby Doo cartoon movies, they used to play them on tv. There was one where the gang went to a school for monsters. They aren't scary, more fun.

Forestdweller11 · 19/10/2020 23:00

Another one for Hotel Transylvania . My scaredycat loves them even now as a teenager.

Forestdweller11 · 19/10/2020 23:08

Just to add. When mine was in primary, Caspar, Harry Potter, scooby do and twilight were all no goes. She was scared of and upset by and refused to watch Cinderella, beauty and the beast, toy story and frozen. Thankfully we can now watch most 12 rated films with little angst . But she is in her teens ...

Forestdweller11 · 19/10/2020 23:10

Oh and a no to Coco . They watched it in year 6 as a treat and she had to leave the room

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 19/10/2020 23:21

Scoot doo live action movies are a favourite in my house, and there's Hubie Halloween on Netflix if you like Adam Sandler.

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 19/10/2020 23:22

*scooby doo obviously 🙄

Stompythedinosaur · 20/10/2020 00:11

My dc have a very low threshold for scary things, but they have enjoyed the Hotel Transylvania films, the nightmare before christmas and coco. We are going to watch Wallis and Grommit Curse of the Were-Rabbit this year.

RiseoftheSeahorse · 20/10/2020 00:43

Edward Scissorhands?

Edward Scissorhands absolutely traumatised me as a child so I’d steer clear of that just in case (my fear is almost pathological Grin)

Coco was my first thought. It’s not a difficult storyline- death is the main theme, but it’s presented very gently. I can’t think of anything that would be scary or too upsetting.

minipie · 20/10/2020 00:52

Hotel Transylvania is a good shout. I’m debating Nightmare before Christmas - I remember finding the baddie that was a sack full of creepy crawlies (can’t remember name) terrifying. As an adult...

XiCi · 20/10/2020 08:37

Theres quite a few child friendly Halloween films on Netflix if you have it. I was searching for hocus pocus and loads came up. Goosebumps is another good one
