What can I get ahead with before starting a new job?

I've got a job Shock. Starting next Monday fulltime. Given i've not worked in several years, I'm going to need to get an awful lot more organised!

Any suggestions on what I can get ahead with (not christmas present shopping)?

So far I've:
Booked a flu jab for today
Done my tax return - how can I stop this? I'm filling in paperwork to say "I've earnt nothing, dont owe any tax". Job will be PAYE, and firmly in low to no tax bands.
Sorted DH's birthday for next month
Cupboards and freezer are reasonably well stocked
Everyone has winter clothes that fit
We are also sorted for half term (also next week!)

What else should I get ahead with?

Get ALL of the laundry done....
Give the house a deep clean and sort.
Organise the house

Get stamps and generic cards and start a present stash , milk bread and at least 3 emergency meals in the freezer

Relaxing? 😁
Have a conversation with your household about how the new routine might work. Don't assume you can or have to still do everything. I coordinate the shopping and meal plan but dh and dteens send me suggestions and I allocate who cooks what when via WhatsApp. DH handles all the laundry.
Think about what YOU will need for work and in the mornings before work. Lunches etc.
Is your wardrobe organised, do you have a work clothes section if needed.
Congrats. I start my new job the same day as you Smile

All the laundry is never going to be done!!
The rest are good shouts. I guess weeding the garden too...
DH is taking responsibility for ALL school runs!!!!

@InTheLongGrass how many in the family? Do you have a dryer? I just get all of mine done on a Saturday morning and start fresh for the week....family of 4 with sports gear. I love starting the week with an empty laundry basket.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/10/2020 10:36

Give your oh a list, and you put your feet up before things get really busy!

InTheLongGrass · 19/10/2020 12:27

@kittykat35 there are 4 of use, but no drier. If the weather plays ball at the weekends, I can get most of it dried and aired, but there is no way I'd get it all done, unless we go for the mumsnet "I only wash my towels once in a blue moon, and change my sheets when there are not 24 hrs in a day" regieme -especially over winter.

Peel, par boil and freeze spuds for roasting for Christmas lunch.

@BikeRunSki

Peel, par boil and freeze spuds for roasting for Christmas lunch.
And put the sprouts on. A low simmer should do it. Grin
trilbydoll · 19/10/2020 12:36

Go to the launderette and do the laundry in their giant machines Grin

If you don't already have a calendar up on the wall with various school things like mufti days written on it, do this so everyone can see it.

CMOTDibbler · 19/10/2020 12:38

Sit down with the family and discuss that things are going to change, and everyone is going to be doing more of an equal share of housework and responsibility for themselves. Draw up a list together of what that means so there are no arguements that 'I didn't know'
Meal plan and set up grocery deliveries ahead so you don't have to food shop

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/10/2020 12:56

Have you got a bullet journal? Its a good way to track things and tasks when youre busy. It doesnt have to be pretty:

Good grief @viques, it’s the middle of October! Sprouts should be in by now!!!😊

Sorry, I missed the vibe of the thread.

InTheLongGrass · 19/10/2020 14:19

Bike it will be Wednesday before the sprouts go on, sorry!! If I put them on too early, DS1 EATS them all before they are ready!

Well we’re dead posh, so we like ours al dente as they say in all the best restaurants , mid October suits us fine.
