Large Moses basket

Does anyone know of a Moses basket type thing which is larger than the standard size? I've googled and they all seem to be of a very similar size unless I'm not searching very well.

I didn't have one for DC1, we used the carrycot but it was grown out of within 6 weeks. The baby box was bigger and lasted quite a bit longer but that doesn't seem to be a thing anymore.

DC1 was 10lb born and 13lb at 3 weeks so a big baby and I've been told to expect similar for DC2, so I'd like something similar in size to the box but higher up, out of toddler reach, which will last until at least 3 months and can be moved around fairly easily between up and downstairs. Does such a thing exist? Has anyone come across one?

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a Moses basket for your newborn, we’ve recently updated our best Moses baskets page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Something like a snuzpod?

Sals27 · 18/10/2020 18:21

@sonypony The bedside sleepers definitely seem to come up bigger and what I'm after size wise but look heavy so I didn't think they would be portable to move between floors. I haven't actually checked the weight, it's just an assumption from how they look so I will look into that incase I discounted them for no reason

Following / have the same dilemma. DS has outgrown the baby box which was meant to last til 4 months (we bought from www.finnishbabybox.com/en/) and the pram bassinet too.

I'm considering getting a travel cot for downstairs, although obviously it's not portable while he's in it...

Could try something like this? Similar size to bedside cribs but easily folded and lightweight. We've got one, also to try and avoid a moses basket being grown out of within months. 🙂

@4amWitchingHour I know you get lots with them just can't bring myself to pay that much for a box Blush They were doing them free a couple of years back but DP hated the box.

How old is your DS? The biggest I've seen so far is the schnuggle (not sure on spelling) make. It's annoying that it's so hard to find them because not all babies are born tiny but they're still newborns so you want them to have a cosy bed Confused

@catlikefi I like that alot! Lightweight and portable but still bigger than a standard Moses basket. I've not come across that one before so thank you!

@Sals27 I would recommend it. I took a bit of a gamble buying it online but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, it's a lovely crib. I got sheets that fit the mattress perfectly too from Ebay 👍🏻

I know, I was a bit Hmm at the cost but my DH was really keen. As DS is our first we can reuse all the clothes etc and they are a really lovely quality. DS is 11 weeks now, although he stopped sleeping in the box at around 5 weeks - he's very tall with long limbs, so when he startled on his sleep he'd hit the sides and wake himself up. Hated being swaddled so no solution there either!

How about something like this? It's foldable and meant to be easier to carry between rooms: www.babyelegance.com/product/kangu-foldable-crib/

Sals27 · 18/10/2020 20:48

@CooperLooper Also looks promising, thanks very much. I like that it has a bag!

@4amWitchingHour Sounds very like my DD. She was a long baby with long limbs and still is tall at 2.5. Hitting the sides was the exact problem we had with the box. I think she went in her cot at about 2.5 months and slept great, she loved the space! I've got no problem putting this baby in the cot young, I might even go earlier if they settle in it but I'd like somewhere safe for downstairs sleeping, which I can move upstairs if I need to. The foldable ones look great

I'd just use the cot upstairs and buy a travel cot for downstairs.......Moses baskets are a waste of money really.
