Do periods symptoms get worse with age?

This is going to sound weird but I the last two times I have been ovulating I have had really bad painful stabbing pains in my ovary. The first time I considered a cyst as I have had one before and it was very painful. The second time (currently) is in the left ovary the first time was the right. My question is is this an age thing? I am almost 44 and so as crazy as it sounds I was wondering whether, as the amount of decent eggs reduce and the old rubbish ones are left, maybe releasing them is a more painful process? Is that a crazy thought and I am just going through a painful time/ have had a couple of cysts lately?

You should really go to see your GP for an investigation. Any irregular pain or bleeding, especially with a history of cysts, should be checked out.

Yes. My periods have been painful since I was around 44.
I also know when I’m ovulating as I get back ache.

Yes the doctor told me ovulation pain particularly increases in severity in your 30s and 40s.
Certainly true for me.
Buscopan and migraleve tablets help me.

Yes mine have got much worse as I’ve got older

Mine were emotional but physically no trouble age 12-22, very painful age 22-31, almost entirely trouble free after I started having kids (age 32-mid 50s I am now). Got steadily lighter over time, I guess.

I never used to get any ovulation pain at all when I was younger, to the point that I didn’t even know I was ovulating!
Nowadays (mid 40’s) every month without fail I get terrible stabbing pains and cramps at ovulation. If I’m quick and realise soon enough, a couple of Nurofen Plus or Solpadeine tablets and a hot water bottle generally makes it bearable and it wears off after a few hours. Leaves me feeling a bit tender and sore for a few days afterwards though.
Bloody periods. Bloody getting older Angry

Oh it sounds like they do then and it is something fairly common. Good to know. The reason I haven't gone to the docs about it is that I have had investigations with cysts in the past and to be honest by the time the scan has come round the cyst has burst or I have been told that they won't do anything until it gets to a certain size.

I had increasingly heavy, painful periods in my 40s which turned out to be fibroids. I had a hysterectomy when I was 45.

My periods are very light and only last a day or two, it's the ovulation that is painful
