Teeth clenching. Anyone ever got rid of bruxism

Been to the dentist. And have had a mouth guard for a few years now due to the clenching of my teeth.
It is getting worse now. And I’m even doing it during the day and in the evenings.
Has anyone ever managed to stop this. How did u do this ?

Friend of mine has Botox for it but there are some drawbacks to this as a long-term treatment

You can get a mouth guard to wear overnight.

I’ve noticed I’m doing this so much since the start of lockdown. I have no idea why because I don’t feel particularly stressed or anything.

I read this article in the NY Times by a dentist saying it used to be fairly uncommon but this year she’s mainly seeing patients who have started doing it and have managed to crack their teeth.

I was planning to go to the dentist to have a mouthguard fitted as I’m noticing I’m doing it fairly constantly now but watching for any other solutions.

I do this and have a mouth guard but I take it out in my sleep 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have just become aware of doing this much more recently. It’s hard work to stop! I have worn down teeth - I have a mouth guard for nights but daytime I find myself doing it all the time

There are sleep meditations on YouTube for bruxism.
I don't get it too bad but when I can't stop this does ease it a bit.
Feel looser in the morning.

Mouth guard overnight - although I hate my dentist fitted one and prefer ‘grind no more’ from amazon (annoyingly they are also much much cheesier but I didn’t know about them when I paid the dentist £150).
Consciously stop yourself and relax your jaw every single time you notice it in the daytime. Guided meditation/relaxation also helps to relax all your face muscles - but to be fair, I only did that in antenatal classes and the kids are now 8&4 so clearly not for some time. Keep meaning to find a you tube but doing other stuff like mumsnetting instead!

Cheaper. No cheese

I trained as a dental nurse when I first left school. Most bruxism cases were women and my boss said it was almost always down to psychological issues, anxiety, stress but all he could do was make custom mouth guards. Consider the possibility of underlying subconscious issues, or you may know them.

I found mine is more of an issue if I'm stressed so I dumped the cause of my stress and my TMJ issues and grinding / clenching /stiff neck has eased right off. I had broken the side out of one of my wisdom teeth with my guard in one night but knew how annoyed I felt before going to bed that night so dealt with it the next day. Have not worn my guard now for a few years. 😁

My job though u wouldn’t think so is stressful. So not sure I can change that. Will look at you tube. My mouth and jaw get so sore all the time. Taken to chewing gum in the car in an attempt to stop it
