I was prescribed ozycodene 8 days ago for intense pain from an injury. Was taking it twice a day then once a day then I've not had any since wed night.
I feel awful today and its gone worse and worse. My head feels like it's in a vice, my entire body is aching so much it hurts. I am so tired and can't sleep and my anxiety is through the roof. I keep shaking with cold then going roasting hot. Keep thinking im going to die in the night or that I hsve bone cancer or sepsis.
My friend told me you can get bad withdrawal symptoms but surely not from just a week?

Does anyone know anything about this? I feel like im in hell.

I’ve had it from accidental withdrawal from fentanyl - I ran out in holiday in USA and it was horrendous but it did go- you are probably through the worst now- it will lessen-I found having a not too hot bath really did help with the aches and stayed in it as long as I could. Had one twice a day and once in the middle of the night. Also contact your gp on Monday if it’s still as bad xx

Forgot to say there was good advice on this on the internet if you google it- it’s more common than you think!

OP I was on these for a while and had bad withdrawal. Even taking them for a few days can cause some symptoms. I think you're over the worst of it now so keep positive! 8 days of it should be mostly out of your system. Taking them for 3 years gave me withdrawal for about 2-3 weeks, so it definitely shouldn't continue for much longer at all.

nc1962 · 17/10/2020 02:33

And the panic, the itching, the feverish feeling, nausea, headache, bad stomach, all those things are normal withdrawal side effects, so don't worry thinking something else must be wrong if you know you're probably ok otherwise (but obviously seek medical attention if it's getting out of hand)

Rationalise it you know why your body and brain is doing this. It will pass. Trust me you will feel better for it out your system. Pain may increase but you will feel so much better. I withdrew from morphine and can no longer take opiates as a result. Once out my system I felt so much clearer I felt rougher from my illness but better in so many other ways! I talked through the tricks my brain had played on me to move forward. I was 13 and post surgery but it was worth getting it out my body!

It would be good to see a doctor. If you are getting withdrawal symptoms, you might need some more doses to gradually reduce down amount (better to do it gradually than cold Turkey as extreme withdrawal can be dangerous)

Doctor could also check you for sepsis or other conditions which may cause your symptoms.

BitOfFun · 17/10/2020 03:23

Fair enough to advise seeing a doctor, Namenic, but I don't think that suggesting there's any credence to extreme anxiety about sepsis (or bone cancer, for that matter!) is helpful at gone three in the morning!

@deffonamechange, it sounds like you're over the worst of it- please try to remember that this terrible fear in the wee small hours is absolutely a symptom, and that you WILL be fine, very soon!

user1471565182 · 17/10/2020 06:40

you're really in the worst of it now, you should feel better by around tommorow. I would say to others maybe look into getting prescription extended but you really are hours away from getting it out of your system so hold out. Paracetamol, ibruprofen and ginger might have to do.

user1471565182 · 17/10/2020 06:41

immodium also really helps, it contains a very weak opiod which seems to kill of the withdrawal but not so much that its still stuck in your system, and obviously stops the horrific shits.

TammyTwoSawnson · 17/10/2020 06:56

I've had oxycodone a lot and coming off it feels horrible.

Instead of lying in bed worrying, get up and get a cold drink/cup of tea and put something light on the TV. You will feel very "doom" like with withdrawal. It's normal. Hot flushes/night sweats/muscle and bone pain = also normal (and horrendous)

Do you have a fever or a very low body temperature?

Mollymalone123 · 17/10/2020 15:56

Agree with previous poster about Imodium to help and as I said baths help with the aches etc xx I had horrendous restless legs- well my whole body actually had to be moved- just hang on in there- xx

deffonamechange · 17/10/2020 18:42

Thanks everyone. You saved me last night. I ended up ringing 111 and the doctor said I can't possibly hsve withdrawal after 8 days on oxycodone!?
He thinks its an infection although nothing obviously sore (urine, ears).
My head still feels in a vice but the aches all over are reducing a bit.
The panic paranoia has died down.
