Honestly, I hate it but it's so easy.

Random people without even a picture messaging

"Postcode"

"Lowest price"

"Give me address"

Or the classics "deliver please" - IT BLOODY SAYS COLLECTION!

"Where are you?" It says it in the listing 🤦🏻‍♀️

The people who want you to hold (even free items) and can't understand I won't and will get rid to the first person who can collect.

Surely it's not just me?

Same here! People just don’t seem to read the advert properly for your location, particularly as our postcode is not accurate and 8/10 I get a message saying ‘I can’t find your house.’ Reiterate the address instructions and it’s ‘oh ok I can see your house now.’ Every time, without fail Hmm

I also really dislike messages saying, for example, nothing but: “?15”. Why can’t they say “would you accept £15?” I ignore those messages as I find them rude, and I hate the question mark in the wrong place.

Twigaletta · 16/10/2020 22:46

I've had a real time of it lately. Absolutely twats. 'I come now for ?10' You bloody won't. It's £15 & I'm not telling you my address.

Marketplace seems to hide my address. 'Is this still available' Yes it is. 'What's the postcode?' (Bearing in mind the actual advert has AA12 8 already in it) I say AA12 8AB and it's 'Too far. Will you post?.

AA12 8AB is too far from AA12 8??????? And the first line of the advert says 'Collection only. I can't post or deliver'

FML

I listed an item for free. It was in brand new condition and cost me about £20 to buy. Just wanted it gone. I said it was collection only. 2 separate people asked me to make an hours round trip to drop off something that was free. I declined.

Along with the people that (even pre-lockdown) would message and say "outside" yes, get out of your car and ring the door bell you lazy sod!

'I come now for ?10'

No mate, we'll agree a mutually convenient time!

CF's! Honestly Shock

I always used to think EBay was full of idiots until I came across FB Marketplace. It takes stupid twattery to a whole new level.

LadyMcLadyface · 16/10/2020 23:17

Or when you give someone the dimensions for the item, they show up way after the agreed time then say "oh it's too small" 🤦🏼‍♀️

Nikhedonia · 16/10/2020 23:20

I had someone travel 15 miles for an £8 item (after giving dimensions) who then said "oh it's too big" Confused

OP posts:
Nikhedonia · 16/10/2020 23:21

Or the people who collect solid oak furniture and say "oh it's quite heavy" yes... solid wood tends to be... Confused

OP posts:
Cuddling57 · 16/10/2020 23:21

Ha ha yes!
I gave away something for free and wanted it gone as soon as possible.
Had loads of messages and was trying to see who could come first.
A woman said tomoro then when I text her back to say sorry it gone she sent me a really angry text telling me her husband had left work early to come and get it! Um you may have wanted to check with me first!

Nikhedonia · 16/10/2020 23:36

Surely someone's husband isn't actually leaving work early to collect a free item without even speaking to you first... how did she even know you would be home? Confused

I also despise the "?" if I don't reply within 5 minutes. Angry

I am having a clear out and the amount of people who have arranged to collect then never shown is staggering. When reminded some say they forgot or cite childcare issues. Now I just block and delete them.

This is exactly why I state "no holding" in every listing. People seem to make more of an effort to come and get it quicker if they know someone else might get there first.

Also the people that randomly message and say "is this still available?" "Yes" and they are never to be heard from again. It's like being ghosted by someone you don't even give a shit about.

I now ignore messages from people asking questions that the answers are in the listing. I find them always to be a pain so I don’t bother.

Someone asked me to cut the price down from £3 to £2 on the door step. I said no. She didn’t take it. That’s on her as she went away without the item and had traveled a while to get to me.
I’m blunt and I just ignore rubbish and annoying people. Doing this has made my experience better.
Mostly though I just post on my little village selling Facebook page so that does make it easier now.

fromheretothemoon · 17/10/2020 07:47

I just thought of two others -

  • the ‘is this item available’ and never hear from them again. I had this recently with an item and I think I had about 8-10 messages like this and never heard back from anyone. The item went on eBay and sold fine.

  • arriving and expecting change from a £10 or £20 note. I’m not a shop or a bank so why would you not arrive with the correct money?

  • I used to sell regularly on eBay and it was very rare that I ever had a query or lower offer. I stopped selling on there though due to the fees for it and PayPal plus a few people claiming items hadn’t arrived when I had Royal Mail proof that they had. They all closed their claims on eBay when challenged so I knew they weren’t legitimate.
Scoobygang7 · 17/10/2020 07:54

I've had to ask about whereabouts sometimes as I've contacted a few people and Facebook have put the listing in my area and they were 4 hours away.

Cordial11 · 17/10/2020 08:15

I listed something for free. A guy emailed and said he could come at 9pm (this was 10am)

I replied to say someone was coming now if they don't show I'll hold it. Messaged back again an hour later to say sorry it has gone.

Wow the abuse I got!!! Called all sorted of names Confused

Cordial11 · 17/10/2020 08:16

Messaged now emailed lol*

Nikhedonia · 17/10/2020 08:31

I'm selling something at the minute and someone has messaged asking to come and see it first (fine) she's messaged at midnight, 1am and 7am.... I'm asleep! That level of harassment means I'm more likely just to reply "no". I'd rather give it away for free than deal with people like that.

The frustration does work both ways. I recently contacted a seller to ask if the item was still available,
"yes"
Great! When would be convenient to collect, and what's the address?
"I'm around tomorrow between 2pm and 6pm"
Okay, I can come at 4pm. What's the address?
The seller didn't respond and I just thought forget it, I've asked twice. Then at 4.30 the following day....
"So are you coming to collect, only I have to take the dog out?"

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/10/2020 08:39

I advertised an 8ft trampoline clearly stating that it needed dismantling by the buyer to get it through the house. The lady wanted to know if she could get it on the bus!

So the irritating buyers sometimes sell stuff too, interesting GrinGrin

That is annoying, though.

And also, if you're the seller and your house is difficult to find, let the buyer know how to find it! I arranged to collect an item and was given the house name and postcode. Could I find the house? Drove up and down this country lane several times with satnav Sally telling me I had reached my destination. Eventually drove about a mile further and turned around in a gated drive. A woman appeared and I was in the right place! House name plate was tucked in a Bush. She said fb had been a nightmare as so many buyers hadn't shown up, well they probably gave up!

And the ones that say "if it's available next week I'll have it" just have in now or don't!
