I'm sorry to add another thread but I'm really frightened about No Deal Brexit and need some perspective

I'm having DC2 very soon and DC1 needs major surgery in next few months, she'll be in hospital a while.

I'm terrified about medical supplies, food shortages etc but think I'm probably catastrophising a little. I expect to have many replies to say it's sadly realistic and I should prep, which may well be sensible, but can anybody give me an idea of what to expect? (Or do we need a crystal ball for that?)

I understand the issues at hand in principle but don't really have enough knowledge to comprehend what the magnitude of impact will be.

(imho) They've had so many practice runs at this, that I'm pretty sure there will be enough basic supplies.

The problems will be things like Lorries backed up on the Kent border, food going off in Lorries that can't get quickly across channel or Irish sea (either way), delays in getting spare parts for washing machines or cars. Lots of price spikes.

covid is more of a problem to interim health care, tbf.

There might be supply issues for certain things (not Loo roll lol), tinned toms, pasta, fresh produce might be a bit affected as well. But there's most likely to be alternatives/substitutes and there will be food, so I don't think anyone will go hungry.

It may take a short time to adjust to the new systems, so glitches are to be expected.

Generally though I think after some initial disruptions the only difference will be in pricing. Imported goods from the EU will be more expensive.

That press conference today was most rhetorics and doesn't mean much, but on the whole, no deal seems a possible outcome. I haven't seen it mentioned but I think that maybe there will be some other form of transition for a few more months in early 2021 because the IT systems for handling freight imports are not yet ready.

Given the surgery is not happening right now I wonder if the level of urgency would allow for it to be moved to mid of 2021?

Posted too soon.

I don't really know how affected medical supplies will be, but hopefully the Govt has a plan in place. (Hopefully Hmm)

Thank you. Most family and DH are very blasé, but I remember the prepper threads last year warning about bottled water and power outages and buying gin to trade for food and what with everything that's gone on with Covid I genuinely have no idea what is over the top and what isn't anymore

I'm a remainer btw and DH leave so there's some disagreement in our household!

DC1's op may be delayed again anyway due to Covid, thankfully it's not urgent urgent as such but there is a window of time for correction and if that's missed it could mean a hopefully one and done surgery could instead turn into several involved procedures.

Just feel so frightened for the DCs now and can't tell anymore what's being hysterical and what is being realistic
