Can someone please help me figure out how much I’ll be paid?

I’ve just got a new job working in a school- 11 hours a week, term time only- it’s a private school so as far as I’m aware they have 16 weeks off a year.

The pay grade is £18k pro rata. When working in a school do you get paid evenly all year round or only during working months? And will I have to pay tax for such a low amount?

Hi. Anyone I know that works in a school, work during school time and have term holidays off. They are paid evenly each month so I'd imagine you would too.

And you would be taxed for 18k. Click on link, and add in your earnings and it'll show you. www.tax.service.gov.uk/estimate-paye-take-home-pay/your-pay

I work in a school and have worked in a private school too.
It's usually a salary divided and paid equally over 12 months.
You can usually add 4.6 weeks holiday on (although this varies according to the school).
You shouldn't pay tax until you earn £12500 each year.

Thanks for the link but it doesn’t help me work out what a part time term time job would pay.

If £18k is the full time wage then 11 hours a week term time only will be nowhere near the tax threshold!

I really don’t think that’s right. She’ll be working only 11 hours a week. If we assume FT hours are 40 a week that’s only £95 weekly, not taking into consideration the 16 weeks hols. That’s less than £5k a year.

MsEllany · 16/10/2020 15:12

@LukeSkywalkerBoots you need to know the hourly rate. My FT hours are 35 a week which is quite low; most positions are 37.5 or 40. It is not going to be a lot.

RedComb · 16/10/2020 15:12

Let’s say full time is 37 hours, 52 weeks = £18k

Working 37 hours for 36 weeks would be £12,461

11 hours a week for 36 weeks would be £3,704.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 16/10/2020 15:14

Thank you @RedComb! I thought it might be roughly that but wasn’t sure!

You'd probably get paid for 40 weeks, when I worked in a state school we were paid for 43.1 weeks, which was term time plus 4 weeks holiday.

RedComb · 16/10/2020 15:21

Yes it’s very rough so depends on the exact hours that make up a full time week, plus any holiday Smile
