Could this trigger an allergic reaction?

Made a meal last night for the whole family in my crock pot so it slow cooked overnight. When I checked on it in the middle of the night I could smell (mildly) the curry I had cooked a week ago in it. The pit has definitely been washed and even been in the dishwasher. MiL is deathly allergic to some of the ingredients that were in the curry so scared this might trigger a reaction!

Is it just that the smell had penetrated the metal? I hope this makes sense, pretty hard to describe!

I haven't a clue, but I wouldn't risk it. I'd make her something else instead.

I’ve had similar with a particular non stick pan and tomato based sauces, but actually found although it had been through the dishwasher a bit of oily residue remained - it needed very thorough washing by hand too. As the mother of a child with food allergies, no, I absolutely wouldn’t take that risk, it’s just not worth it.

It’s not worth the risk

Damn I thought the same. She seems to think it would be find but It’s just not worth the risk! Will make her a separate dish.

It's possible that some just spilt inside or on the outer metal pot and therefore not in contact with the new meal. If absolutely confident that this was the case, I would let your MIL make her own judgement call with all of the information.

You can buy liners for the Crockpot....this would stop any fears?

Available online - just google ‘slow cooker liners’.
