Short Sighted Perscription

What is yours?

I'm in my 40 and it isn't stabilising. I would like laser eye surgery but it seems unlikely. Have gone from - 6.50 to - 7. 25 in a year. Will it just continue to get worse?

Prescription or perception?

Bagelsandbrie · 16/10/2020 11:24

I’m -9.50 both eyes, have been since I was 30 and I’m now 40. I think it does tend to stop changing so much as people get older, but not always.

Optician here, most people do stabilise usually younger than you - but not everyone.
Are you on your pc a lot?

IceniWarrior · 16/10/2020 11:33

Well I guess I have reduced sight perception because of an increase to my prescription. Both.

I'm at PC 8 - 10 hours a day. Will that impact it?

Mine is -9 in Left eye and -9.50 in Right eye
Last week I was also diagnosed with glaucoma and early cataracts in both eyes
I'm 55

I was -7 and had laser eye surgery over the summer. I also had a stigmatism in both eyes and was starting to need reading glasses. They did say your eyes need to be stable for surgery. I now have 20/20 distance vision but still need +1 readers as that couldn’t be corrected. I’m 47

@IceniWarrior the aetiology of myopia is really complex, but yes, current thinking is that eyes adapt to a constant close focus by altering the eye to make close things easier to see. Which makes you more short sighted.
Make sure you're taking regular breaks - 10 minutes per hour is ideal and if you can go outside during your breaks all the better. If you can't take that long, just make sure you're looking out of the window as much as possible.

Until yesterday I was - 10.5 or thereabouts in both eyes. It had been stable for years (since my 20s anyway). Yesterday my optician found that my sight had deteriorated in both eyes so a new prescription required.

For me, the real pain was when I started needing reading glasses on top of my contact lenses. Even worse was finding out that a pair of glasses with varifocal lenses for my prescription cost around £600 - that's with a cheap frame.

IceniWarrior · 17/10/2020 08:36

Reading glasses on top of lenses! Please no! I didn't know that could happen.

I needed reading glasses with my lenses, it was why I got mine lasered
