For those who choose to celebrate Halloween, how do you plan on doing it this year since trick or treating won't be happening?

I need some fun ideas!

Our village is having a spooky trail with decorations and bagged sweets left outside on string.

I’ve gone to town on decorations this year to try to cheer everyone up a little. 🎃

We going to carve pumpkins, bob for apples, have colcannon and brack, and do a sweet hunt in the garden with some sparklers.

minipie · 15/10/2020 14:11

Well we were going to have a couple of friends round for the kids. But now tier 2 so can’t. I think we may still dress up and go out and meet the friends outdoors.. hopefully there will be some decorated houses to see. .. I will give the kids sweets maybe each time they see a pumpkin.

No idea now! DD was going to have two friends over. We're also going into tier 2 so can't even though they're in the same class at school so together 5 days a week.

Lindy2 · 15/10/2020 14:16

I'm going to decorate the house and set up a Halloween treasure hunt inside the house and garden for the kids to do in the dark.

We usually love trick or treating and it's usually a big fun event in our village - not this year though. I don't want people coming to my door and my children won't be going to other houses.

Spam88 · 15/10/2020 14:23

Plenty of people on my street have said they're still happy to have trick or treaters. We'll be leaving sweets outside.

len1234 · 15/10/2020 14:26

Love the idea of a candy / Halloween treasure hunt. Will definitely have to carve some pumpkins!

I think we're going to stick with Halloween pyjamas instead of costumes this year, so was thinking of doing a movie night with a child friendly Halloween movie (coraline, Casper the friendly ghost ect.)

I was thinking of popping wrapped lollipops in a pumpkin like a party hedgehog and leaving it down by the gate for passing kids.

Rockbird · 15/10/2020 14:59

A special tea, spooky music, apple bobbing etc. The sweet hunt in the garden sounds good too. And then finish off with a kids' spooky film I guess. We usually go to my parents' for a party but they've just been moved up a tier so no households mixing Sad.

len1234 · 15/10/2020 16:17

@Rockbird It definitely stings when missing out on those special traditions. 😔

Just hoping we'll be able to celebrate Christmas with family this year.

Our hamlet and the two villages either side are doing a Halloween hunt, similar idea to the rainbow picture in windows idea. You can stick a pumpkin picture in your window or decorate your whole house if you want to, parents then take their children out to hunt for houses with decorations up. Fir each house they spot the parent puts a sweet in their childs bucket. That way there is no knocking on doors or taking sweet bags others may have touched.
I love the idea, we never get trick or treaters at put house as we have a 1/2 mile long drive sonobody can be bothered to walk up it! We always put a pumpkin at entrance as well as a scarecrow as all the surrounding area do a competition every year for best scarecrow/display, which is always great fun for people to walk around and see.
They usually stay up until bonfire night where we all get together for a big organised display(proceeds of which go to local hospital charity)and the winners are announced. No display this year, but competition still going ahead and there are more entries than ever to try make up some of the money lost from display tickets.

I want to live in your house! Grin

BlusteryShowers · 15/10/2020 17:09

Assuming our area doesn't change, we're having one couple and their daughter over for a Halloween themed tea and a treasure hunt round the house. Then we're going to knock on a couple of relatives as we all live quite close by.

It's the first one that my son will be aware of it so I'd like to do some things in the house at least.

Drinkingallthewine · 15/10/2020 17:20

We are having a drive-through trick or treat for the kids as a school fundraiser in our village.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 15/10/2020 17:22

Movie and pizza, mine never went trick or treating so no different. We won’t be answering the door or decorating this year though as don’t want people calling.

nosswith · 15/10/2020 18:38

Make pumpkin pie and enjoy it at home.

len1234 · 17/10/2020 07:16

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss Never been a** big fan of trick or treating so I actually don't mind that part. Grin I don't at all mind giving out candy, but won't be doing that this year either.
