McDonald's advert

'Sometimes a little means a lot'

Since when has giving a teenager a car (parents old one) been 'something little'?

Maybe I'm missing the point.

Mind you, the insurance probably costs more than the car is worth!

It's a very odd advert.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 11:47

Ah its not to bad I think its saying your teenager really does appreciate you there is always comments about ungrateful kids he loved his "mum car"

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/10/2020 11:48

I think the point is meant to be that it's an old/crap car, but that his Mum has worked hard to get it for him.

Meanwhile back in the real world its perfectly normal not to give your dc a car at all, and for that reason it's odd!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/10/2020 11:49

doesn’t she just give him a spare key, so they share the car?

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 11:53

Oh maybe

Actually I think you're right.
LagneyandCasey · 15/10/2020 11:58

She says 'It's the key to your car, well my old car' so he's definitely been given a car.

I think its just representing that not all teenagers are embarrassed by every thing

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 12:00

And appreciate their mums.

JJESQ · 15/10/2020 12:02

I thought the something little means a lot was from the mums point of view, as in him bringing back a McDonald's for her

BarbaraofSeville · 15/10/2020 13:39

Yes, his mum is proud and happy because he's not embarrassed to be driving his mum car, but he's also done a thoughtful thing, by bringing her the McDonalds.

Mothers of teen boys and young adults who've just got through the 'bottomless pit locust' stage will appreciate the gesture where he's getting food for her for once.

As for the OP, yes a car and insurance for a young man is beyond many. And at least he's not spending most of his wages each month financing a new car. He might need the car so he can work, or at least not have his mum driving him around all the time, but that's not the point of the advert.

LagneyandCasey · 15/10/2020 13:54

Thanks all. It's good to see other ways of looking at it. So it could be that the teenage son doing something nice for his mum in return for his gift is the 'little thing that means a lot'.

And yes getting the car is often the cheap part of motoring - I presume the lad will have to tax, insure and maintain it himself.

I thought it was this...though as sweet as it Was i wouldnt really appreciate a cold mcdonalds 😀

I have to virtually wrestle ds2 to the floor for a cuddle but he wrote the sweetest thing in my recent birthday card...im keeping it and will bring it up when necessary or for bribery purposes

Grapesoda7 · 15/10/2020 14:03

I thought the little was the mcdonalds nuggets (or whatever they are) that the teenager gave his mum

x2boys · 15/10/2020 16:15

Yes I thought it was him bringing his mum something from McDonald's,but I also thought it was her money as he appears to be using change that was already in the carConfused? Apparently it's has hadpeople in tears so it said in my local paper ( they did an article on it as he's a local lad) Hmm

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/10/2020 16:18

I thought it was both parties doing a 'little thing'. So Mum lets him use her car, which is apparently so awful he gets laughed at, but it's all she can afford. In return he buys her some nuggets. Or something.

Fartintheloft · 15/10/2020 16:28

I think the tag line ‘something little means a lot’ is the key.
So she gives him keys to the car. It’s not the best car in the world (he feels - as portrayed by everyone laughing at him etc.)

But then he goes to MD’s and realises it’s worth (freedom etc.) and is now proud of the car and grateful to his mum - who had given him something ‘little’.

Then there the MD side of it that ties in. So MD’s isn’t a fancy meal at a posh restaurant it’s just something little and he gives back the something little to his mum.

So both sides give something little that means a lot. I totally agree with @RufustheSniggeringReindeer about the cold McDonalds 😂

Fartintheloft · 15/10/2020 16:29

Got the tag line slightly wrong, but you know what I mean Grin

emilyfrost · 15/10/2020 16:34

The “little that means a lot” is in reference to the food, not the car, because it’s hard for teenagers to give little niceties.
