Friendly Tortie cats

Off the back of another thread about gingers, i saw alot of posts about torts attacking and being general terrors.

I knew they had a rep but not that bad!

Ive have 2, one currently lead on my knees purring away and one tucked around my feet ( i have nowhere near enough quilt but they jumped on before i had a chance to pinch it back from dp!)

They are the most loving and affectionate little ladys. My longhaired is the most patient cat i have EVER seen with babies. Ds was 3 when we got her so i expected dd 6 years later to be bit of a shock but the daft thing sits there and lets her pull handfuls of fur, now dd is coming up for a year shes been batted (claws in) twice for bugging her but i know dc would never hurt her and is just teaching her boundaries, she did the same with ds. Shes constantly on my lap and the most loving thing.

Little tort is a bit more aloof, not a lap cat but very affectionate. Never so much as a swipe from her. Avoids dd but now shes getting less grabby is starting to get braver. Loves her people and shoes...

Ive prattled on. I do love those girls.

Please tell me theres other friendly tortishell girls out there!

We've got a friendly tortie girl! She'll jump on and try to knead milk out of your throat, because she wants to be as close to you as physically possible. It's lovely but painful. She's also a snuggler and will very happily sleep with us on the sofa or in bed if we let her.

As mentioned elsethread she is an absolute foodmonster though.

Mum's tortie (same extended cat family but different generation) is basically identical apart from the kneading. Super snuggly, crawls under your duvet and nuzzles.

Oh - MIL's tortie (unrelated) is a strange mix. She's usually super purry and cuddly, but two or three times a week goes on a murder rampage for half a day where she'll have your hand off if you try to touch her. She's been checked out several times by the vet, nothing wrong, just moody.

I have a 13-year-old Tortie and she is lovely girl.
Does she hiss and swipe at you if you come too close? Yes.
Does she pick fights with the sleeping Tabby? Yes.
Does she move her body in contortions to keep you from petting her? Well, yes.
Does she terrify you because she's silent like a ninja and jumps behind you without you even noticing? Yes.
She does those things but she's such an affectionate girl but it comes on her own terms.
She will come to you when she wants a cuddle and will give you the loudest purrs.
When she wants your attention, she will follow you around and will give you those slow blinks of approval.
I just like to think that she is quite discerning in her taste. When she does give me attention (notice, not the other way around) I feel good to be so blessed with such a beautiful creature! Lol
I do love my Tortie girl.

I love torties! They can certainly be pretty feisty (though I like that in a cat), but my experience has been that they are also very people-focussed and affectionate.

My little tortie girl passed away four years ago this month. Still miss her and i always will. Affectionate but on her terms with an independent streak. Cats march to the beat of their own drums Smile

I lost my beautiful tortie ten years ago and the loss is still raw. She was the most wonderful cat - so friendly and intuitive. The birds used to play with her in the garden which was lovely to watch.
We did find out that she was a huge bully to other cats on the street though.

The cat next door is a tortie and has a lovely sweet nature. Very friendly and calm.

My tortie was my best cat so far. She didn't cuddle but she loved being stroked. Was very sociable- she'd come for walks in the field with us. Also an excellent hunter.

First pet was a tortie-sweetest, most loving little cat ever. Thought so much of her people that we were regularly gifted bloodstained rabbits on the bed in the middle of the night.

I have a tortie and also a calico, they’re sisters. The tortie is actually more affectionate than the calico. She’ll come and fling herself all over your lap to be stroked all over. It’s more like a massage! She loves it. She’s also really intelligent, can play fetch like a dog! Mice with feather tails are her favourite and she’ll bring one over and drop it in front of you waiting for you to throw it. She can happily play that for half an hour or more. She’s also really close with her sister. They groom each other and curl up together. Oh and they play hide and seek too which is so cute! I adore my cats.

Mine is friendly and loving until she decides that she's had enough or I touch her somewhere that she doesn't want to be touched (basically anywhere except her head).

She'll sit on my lap and and nudge to be petted, and also sometimes sleep cuddled up to me in bed and is wonderful at tolerating all the mad foster kittens that we have, but when she's fed up with being stroked, she will suddenly hiss and slap me across the face, sometimes with both paws Shock.

She went to the vet for her booster a few weeks ago and she wouldn't let the vet examine her, she just let me put her on the scales and to have her booster she had to be covered in a blanket and the vet just went in quick.

She had been fine at home and is normally OK at the vets, I think she was just annoyed to have been dragged away from her Sunday morning snooze and taken to be prodded and poked.

Tortie and calico are only colours, not breeds, so their temperament isn't defined by the colour of their fur. They're all pretty much always girls, boys are rare and usually sterile.

I have a little calico kitten who is an absolute delight, I've honestly never known an animal to be so lovely. She purrs all day long, loves cuddles and being as close as is physically possible, and is so incredibly gentle towards our bunnies. Plus she's gorgeous!

OnCandyStripeLegs · 15/10/2020 08:33

Our tortie is a character. Has resting bitch face - the best I've ever seen, partly due to her markings but mainly because she's perpetually downtrodden. She's constantly starved (the reality is her food bowl is always full), always bullied (yet her brother has a nick out of his ear from her and frequently has claws stick in him that have come from her paws), never cared for (bollocks), I'm forever booting her across the floor (once - once, she walked in front of my foot as I was walking and I tripped up rather than kick her; now she flinches and cowers every time she sees me) She loves DH and DD and will follow them around like a sheep. I walk into a room and she has to slink out commando style.

At the moment she's having a crisis because the radiator in our bedroom is on my side of the bed and our room is the only one with carpet upstairs. Her ideal spot is under the radiator, but obviously that's too near me. So she will sleep there but dive under the bed when I come in and then sneak back out when she thinks I'm asleep. But then if I turn the light on or move or breathe then she has to dive back under the bed in case I think she's thawing in her utter hatred of me and all I stand for. Me - the person who turned the heating on in the first place.

I only get a bat from my hairy one if ive tickled her belly at a time not to her choosing or shes simply not relaxed enough for it and thats pretty rare. I honestly dont get any sass from my 2 thats not normal cat queen behavior!
