Can you replace the fob bit (where the buttons are) on a car key?

Just got a new (to me) car today and the key fob for the car key is really shiny and worn - the symbols on each button are barely visible.

Would I be able to replace the fob casing or would it have to be a full key replacement (in which case it would probably be too expensive and I wouldn't bother!)

You can buy replacement casings from ebay for a couple of pounds. I did it with my last car as the part to attach to a key ring was broken off

Our electric key fob broke (the plastic not the metal key part) and a local place was able to replace the whole thing pretty cheaply. Google car key replacement and you can get an idea of price from them.

Our local Timpsons can do replacement all singing all dancing keys for between £80 and £150 depending on make and model. And there's a company in Big Town that's fifteen miles away that will do it from their van so you don't even need to drive there for a similar ish sort of price.

If fob actually works, just memorise the position of the various controls. This has worked for me for the past 18 months. I've got a Timpson's (see above) but actually since I double checked it worked properly it's been in the Spare Key Pot or DP's pocket, depending on where we are and what we're doing, ever since.

To be fair Doggy Funbus Four is only three years old so spending £70 on a very important accessory isn't stupid! If she's anything like the previous three Doggy Funbuses she'll be part of our lives for a few years yet. We normally have two Doggy Funbuses at a time btw.

If it's just that the symbols have worn off the buttons, put some Tipp-Ex on and redraw them yourself. By the time it wears off, you'll have memorised them all.
