Do you get excited about your birthday?

It’s my birthday tomorrow. Not a big one, just a fairly ordinary one and I’m getting loads of questions about whether or not I’m excited. I’m honestly totally indifferent.... absolutely no excitement or any feelings really. Am I odd? Do you get excited about your birthdays now?
I think lockdown is playing a part, as is the part that I have no real plans for tomorrow having celebrated few friends a few weeks ago.

Not at all! I hate getting older. Time just seems to go ridiculously fast.
I’m not miserable about it though, and still mark it with going out/take away and appreciate the messages and gifts I get.

Nope. Like some pp I don't like the fuss and so just some simple birthday wishes are fine by me.

I dread round number birthdays because of the added pressure to do something exciting when, to me, the day off work and someone else to walk the dogs for me so I can stay in pyjamas all day and watch movies would be ideal.

No not really, my birthday hasn't really been about me since I was 18. Its quite close to Christmas so I'm too busy focusing on that and making sure the kids have a good time and the day of my birthday is spent going for a big family Christmas meal, not specifically for my birthday.

I don't get presents from friends or many family members, so don't have a birthday wishlist. And anything I would like I would normally just buy for myself.

Nope. Can't remember even having a party for my birthday since I was a child, and even then it was only for "big" bdays like 7 or 13. It's just not a big deal.

Cannot understand those that feel the need to plan big parties for their birthdays (of their children's) year after year. How tedious.

Excited is a bit of a childish term to me, I might look forward to nice things I plan on my birthday but it is the event - e.g. spending time with friends, eating nice food etc rather than the day itself. Lord knows I don't want to see my numbers going up any more Grin

No, with no friends and no family (apart from DH and ds) its a bit flat. However this year (which was the year I lost both parents) its worked out that I'm picking up my dream car on my actual birthday, so am excited for once!

batteriesgoing · 14/10/2020 11:11

No. I get a bit excited for my DD's birthday though, I like setting everything up for her and seeing her open her presents and usually having a party.

janj2301 · 14/10/2020 11:23

Never bothered about birthdays even as a child, never had a party. I've passed several milestone birthdays as well, no fuss no bother

Frownette · 14/10/2020 11:37

Oh god no. There is only one I'll ever remember and that was peaceful and beautiful. I forget birthdays now.

MrsR87 · 14/10/2020 11:57

Usually yes, but not for the presents. Me and DH always do something really special for our birthdays (up until next month we have no children) so we’ve eaten in Michelin star restaurants, had city breaks, visited the Harry Potter studio tour etc. However this year, due to me being 33 weeks pregnant on my birthday, I didn’t want to risk going anywhere so we stayed in and had a takeaway! It was lovely and what I fancied doing as I don’t think I could have faced getting all dressed up ( even though I usually love it) but I would say I looked forward to it...it just felt like another day!

purpledagger · 14/10/2020 12:05

Yes, I get excited.

Not about my birthday, but because I use the opportunity to have a day to myself for a bit of 'me' time -shopping, nice lunch, beauty treatment etc

I rarely get time to myself, so I look forward this.
