Are air fryers worth it?

Considering an air fryer for Christmas (yes I am that person that likes to get a gadget/something for the house for Christmas!).
Does anyone have one and would you say it's worth it?

I'd like one too but wonder where I'd put it.

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 13/10/2020 22:17

@OhioOhioOhio yes a lot of counter space to sacrifice! So want to be sure it's worth it

I've just been sitting wondering the same thing this evening. Watching with interest Grin

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 13/10/2020 22:22

We shall sit and wait for the air fryer owners to arrive with the knowledge.

Worth it yes. We have no microwave and the only other thing out is a kettle so plenty of worktop space.

Houseplanted · 13/10/2020 22:24

I have a Philips air fryer. It broke a few months ago and I replaced it straight away as I use it quite a lot, great gadget!

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 13/10/2020 22:26

I have a Phillips one too and it's fabulous. My one kitchen gadget I couldn't live without.

CodenameVillanelle · 13/10/2020 22:28

I love mine! Totally worth it

loopylindazdaughter · 13/10/2020 22:29

We have literally just bought our 5th actifry!! (Eat shite loads of chips), each one used almost daily. Well worth the money.

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 13/10/2020 22:29

Think that's sold it to me then Grin
The Philips one has £60 off right now in the amazon prime day sale! Although I think I would quite like one of the ones with the presets...
Can I ask do you still brush some things with oil when you cook with it?

OP posts:
Soozikinzii · 13/10/2020 22:33

Yes definitely they're worth it yes brush with oil or spray with oil only need a touch .

FlorenceNightshade · 13/10/2020 22:34

I have a tefal genius one and I love it! I make stir fry a few times a week, meatballs, chilli, it does fresh chips and I make a chocolate brownie in it too. You can cook frozen stuff like chicken nuggets, oven chips etc too.

There is an official tefal recipe app and a Facebook page with great inspo but also loads of unofficial ones where people share recipes with photos.

Was a bit expensive but it’s used most nights for something.

I bought a Ninja grill with gift vouchers and it's great, if a little small for my family of five. It acts as a grill, oven and air fryer and it has pretty much replaced my oven. Size wise, you can just about get a whole chicken in it.

The chips (fresh or frozen) are marvellous.

Autumngoldleaf · 13/10/2020 22:38

Wow a whole chicken in it!

I can understand doing chips in it, save on the fat, but why a chicken?

Zhx3 · 13/10/2020 22:40

Oh, I have a pressure cooker as well so was experimenting. 24 minutes in the pressure cooker then 10 minutes to crisp the skin in the air fryer!
Rafflesway · 13/10/2020 22:41

We have just bought the Ninja Foodi Max!

Cooked fresh chips in it at the weekend! OMG, they tasted like chip shop chips. 😋

Zhx3 · 13/10/2020 22:43

I actually have Foodi Max envy, but have an Instant Pot so can't justify it!

Icantcontrolmyface · 13/10/2020 22:48

Well in mine I cook....sausages, bacon, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, fishcakes, parsnips, pigs in blankets, mushrooms, yorkshire puddings, chips, wedges, onion rings, stuffing balls, roast potatoes with beef dripping. Im sure there's more...oh and it reheats pizza slices without soggyness like you'd get in the microwave. Its also tends to reduce cooking time.

WhoLettheCatOut · 13/10/2020 23:08

I've just sold mine as I've used it twice in 2 years. Friends use them all the time though so I would say it depends on use! I found it used quite a bit of electricity for not a huge amount of speed gain, I also am quite happy with oven chips and couldn't be bothered to make chips in it. I kept it in a cupboard so no space issue but it was large if you had to have it out all the time.

Autumngoldleaf · 13/10/2020 23:40

Is it reducing fat? Why are people using them? Does it make the food more tasty?

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 14/10/2020 13:45

@Autumngoldleaf a selling point for me is smaller and easier to clean than an oven so wonder if this could be part of it?

I absolutely bloody love mine and use it almost daily. Best kitchen gadget I ever bought.
