Book keeper role

Just wondered if someone can help. I'm getting fed up of doing my partner's business admin for various reasons. Just wondered if a book keeper on here could explain what you do? Ideally I need monthly invoices done and then tax return completed. He is a sole trader and not VAT registered.

Outsourced bookkeeping doesn't usually involve the invoicing I'm afraid.

It would take you as long to give the information to someone else as it does to just raise the invoices yourself ime.

For the tax return, just give a local accountant a call. Would cost between £150 to £350 for a sole trader set if accounts including 1 tax return round here. Depends what is involved as to how much Smile

Raise sales invoices and chase payment
Post purchase invoices and pay suppliers
Post expenses
Post bank transactions
Keep track of petty cash
Prepare the management information
Ensure everything is recorded accurately so that when the accountants come to do month/quarter/year end there is less for them to do, which helps keep cost down

Doesn’t sound much when I write it down, I’m sure there’s lots I’ve missed!

There is software that does all of this for you, and pretty cheaply. Depending on your business, it can be as simple as entering the sale, with just as many button pushes as you do on a till, and most of the work is done. Invoices and reminders can be automatically emailed by the system. Reports and dashboards give you a daily/monthly/annual view of your business with whatever granularity you like.

I wasn't sure if invoicing is included. I have looked at the software before. But I don't want any input and I know it will get shoved my way again, however, I will look at it again.

Look at Xero I've used this for lots of small businesses for your invoicing and it can do loads more.
Then possibly a local accountant for your tax return, they should be able to work within Xero too.

Different book keeps may be willing to do different things. I would have a chat with a few, see if you can find someone who is a good fit for the business. If you don’t want to do the admin you shouldn’t have to do it

Bookkeepers not book keeps!
