Being induced right now

Anyone else in the same position? Don't think I'll be sleeping as I'm pretty uncomfortable. Plus all the lights in the ward are inexplicably still on.
Husband has been sent home for the night. I'm contracting 3 times in 10 mins but handling the pain ok with a TENS machine so pretty certain I'm not ready for the labour ward yet.

I was in this situation earlier on this year. As soon as they broke my waters, I was in full blown labour and delivered 5 hours later. You've got this. Good luck! X

ShirleyPhallus · 12/10/2020 22:51

Wah how exciting!!

I was induced earlier this year. The contractions sure come on quick and hard, do as much as you can but don’t be afraid to ask for pain relief.

You know it’s an unwritten rule that birth threads have to show a photo of the baby at the end right?

Good luck!!

YukoandHiro · 12/10/2020 23:20

I've only had the pessary so far and finding progress so much more manageable than it was with my spontaneous labour - but that started with my waters breaking naturally, and so far they are in tact.
Have no idea what tonight will being. Would rather crack in tbh, so if they offer to break my waters I will say yes. (I'd rather they did it upstairs in the delivery room though)

Fell asleep for a little while and now contractions have basically subsided.

Depressing! Trying to get some more rest while I can... hopefully tomorrow will bring some decent progress

Currently up feeding my 5 week old baby- I too was induced with a pessary and then they broke my waters.

All in all a really positive experience- good luck!

FourPlasticRings · 13/10/2020 05:22

Oh my goodness, hi @YukoandHiro! Nice to see you again. So exciting to think you'll have your baby soon. Sending you positive vibes for a quick and manageable birth without need for intervention. Hope your toddler is doing OK too.

How exciting!
I was induced recently and had planned to keep the birth as natural as possible; only using TENS, hypnobirthing and a pool birth, then gas & air when needed. Little did I know that induced contractions are much stronger when on the oxytocin drip. I was adamant I didn't want an epidural but it was a different story when I was in the labour ward with back to back contractions. I'm so glad I changed my mind. I hope the doctors warned you in advance that you might need an epidural.

I'm pretty sure they won't break your waters until you're in the labour ward, but you can always ask the midwives at the desk. You don't have to wait for them to visit you in the ward.

I hope everything happens quickly for you. We didn't move to the labour ward until 26 hours after having the pessary.

Good luck for the birth! I hope your midwives are as lovely and supportive as mine were. Right now I'm typing with my newborn cuddled up asleep in my arms; it's so worth it. Keep us updated Flowers

YukoandHiro · 13/10/2020 06:12

Hi @WeNo - I wonder if you live near me? Your username is the slang term for the area I live in....

Yes I'm aware that epidural might be desirable if we go for the drip, but I'm hoping to avoid it as I had an epidural during my first birth as it led to me going backwards from 8cm to 6cm and labour lasting an additional 20 hours (and the involvement of a drip too). So I'm trying to be positive that breaking waters will do enough to get contractions ramped up naturally.

I am back on the monitors this morning and can feel that I'm contracting but it's mild compared to yesterday evening.

Plan is to be examined at 11am (24 hours after pessary) and see if they can break waters then....

Good luck @YukoandHiro! Was induced earlier this year, pessary brought on extremely rapid labour and I went from nothing to baby in less than three hours. I'll keep fingers crossed that your 21am is good news and hope you get some rest

YukoandHiro · 13/10/2020 07:13

That's what I was hoping for @MrsMaglev but pessary was 11.30am yesterday and I've had regular but only mild contractions since 4pm.
But if I'm 2cm now they can break waters today...

Hi Yuko, lying down slowed and eventually ceased my contractions from the gel and I had to go for the drip. So my advice is stay upright and active if you can! Good luck

bearlyactive · 13/10/2020 07:28

Good luck OP!

MrsMaglev · 13/10/2020 08:35

@YukoandHiro fingers crossed! Like a PP said are you able to walk round at all? I got to know my hospital car park quite well. Oh the sights and sounds of labouring during covid!!

bearlyactive · 16/10/2020 19:41

How is everything OP?

YukoandHiro · 21/10/2020 04:39

Baby was born last Tuesday afternoon. True active labour only lasted 4 hours. It hurt like hell and I yelled a lot but I did get through it with only gas and air and a tens machine. I'm so pleased as my recovery has been 100 times easier then my first birth which was heavily medicalised. I'm tired and have a weak core, and my stitches are still sore, but overall I feel well in myself.
Most happily, although I know it's very early days, after a very difficult and high needs first child, this unicorn baby is the calmest, easiest child I've ever come across! Long May it last -'I'm just counting every scream free day as a blessing
