Is anyone familiar with the childhood illness know as Pandas or Pans? Has anyone had it or know someone who has? It's not very well known.

I am a mh nurse with children. I know about it, but it is classically very hard to diagnose.

My ds has a diagnosis of PANS after a positive reaction to a trial of anti inflammatories. We are waiting for an appointment with a neurologist.

@Stompythedinosaur I was diagnosed with it somewhere between the ages of 12-14. Eventually it faded to nothing but I've had a sudden resurgence of symptoms, quite severe over the past few weeks which has left me quite confused as it's a childhood illness. I'm now almost 25. I also have MH issues too.

@HumphreyCobblers Hi, thanks for responding. What symptoms does your DS have? Good luck with the neurologist. I was diagnosed with PANDAS as a child. I'm now 24 and recently my symptoms have returned.

I sorry to hear that.

My ds presents somewhat atypically as he has a severe language delay, but his PANS manifests with ticcing (verbal and physical), loss of eye contact, loss of cognitive ability and separation anxiety.

There is a Facebook support group for adults with PANS/PANDAS which you might find helpful?

HumphreyCobblers · 12/10/2020 11:07

It is called PANS/PANDAS UK support group (adults)

LordoftheDance · 12/10/2020 11:18

@HumphreyCobblers Thanks for that. I did a google search and found barely anything related to PANDAS in adults. I've had two episodes, one yesterday and one this morning of tics. Which was always my most prominent symptom, physical and sometimes verbal. But it's been quite severe this time, almost lashing out. I have a compulsion to be near things so I can cause devastation. I've torn my kitchen apart this morning, sent items flying, etc. And ended up with sore hands and feet as a result.

Gosh that sounds so hard, I am sorry. Have you tried taking some neurofen or other anti inflammatory? Can you make an emergency appointment with the doctor?
