Cleaners of Mumsnet - what do you find hardest to clean?

Sort of following from another thread - I'm decorating and 'finishing off' my new house but anxious to avoid anything that looks fabulous in the shops but either doesn't work the same way or is impossible to clean in real life.

For example - I really wanted a free standing bath, but another thread has told me that cleaning behind them is impossible. I'd love a butler's sink, but apparently they stain.

So what do people find the hardest things to clean in their own (or other people's)? Chrome in bathrooms? Matt paintwork?

Cosmos, my friend with the black tiles on the floor had a golden retriever dog so also had to sweep it several times a day as the fluff was so visible. This is also something she found infuriating.

The foxes shower head - I read you get a cloth with white vinegar and use a plastic bag tied round the head. Leave overnight and it should be clean.

I had a second tap/shower head fixed half way down the bath. This is for hair washing, either in the bath or over the bath, tile cleaning, and dog washing. Best thing ever!

We have a rangemaster cooker, the cast iron grills are a nightmare to keep clean. If it splashes with oil, I have to clean it straight away otherwise it’ll stick and doesn’t come off. Really annoying to have to do in the middle of cooking.

Another one is a white granite worktop. Forever cleaning off tea/coffee stains.

JesusInTheCabbageVan I heartily agree with your husband. We got rid of tiles around the bath in our previous flat and replaced them with the wall panels and they were so much better. When it's time to redo the bathrooms here we'll do that again.

Also echo PP who hates concertina/sliding shower doors. They are the WORST. Revolting. And I hate having a bath without a shower over it. It's so much easier to clean when you can rinse with the shower head.

As a cleaner, white floor, gloss black floor, gloss cupboard fronts, twiddly detail cupboard fronts. Fancy taps especially square cut ones where the water just sits and waterfall ones. Shower tracks, walk in shower cubby shelves. Polished stone work tops. Slatted blinds.

Gloss cupboard doors are a doddle if you use a window vac.

I bought a black glass gas hob as I thought it must be easier to clean than a steel one. It isnt. I’m never done with the damn thing. I don’t know what the answer is though.

My sofa is freestanding in the middle of the room (difficult to explain the layout but it works). So I don't move it to clean underneath, I tip it backwards. It's far far easier to tip up and back than it is to drag!

Also any loose crap then comes out from between the cushions...

@DuaneBenziesvoice big bag wrapped around the head and lime scale remover inside, can use lemon juice if you prefer! Leave it overnight! Only issue is you still need to get up there to do it!

Heated towel rails are a bitch to clean! Have to clean each and every row and then buff it so it doesn't show water marks grrrr

We also inherited a kitchen with cream worktops and dark gloss cupboard doors. What a ball ache!
