And it was shit.

1st labour was awful. I had such high hopes for this one.

Managed just in the water with no pain relief until my waters went with meconium. Then G&A and straight to pushing. Baby came out, great, then her cord snapped. So we were to be transferred from birth unit to hospital. Then my placenta wouldnt come out.

Did the whole labour naturally then ended up in theatre. Now without my girl who is in SCBU who clearly do not support BF which I'm finding difficult. They will call m to go and feed her again in an hour or so but DH isnt allowed to go, fuck knows how that will work given I cant stand.

Sorry. Just needed to vent.

Thanks everyone.

We are home. Next question- any tips on how to deal with 2 children?!

Lovely news, relax and enjoy your babies they grow so fast, the housework will wait, you will never look back and regret not dusting so often.

Glad that you are gone! What a 24 hours for you, well done for getting through it and hope you and your wonderful new little girl get some well deserved sleep.

HOME I'm glad that you are HOME!! Stupidest typo ever Blush

Well done op, that's so wonderful..
But it makes me feel sick that no matter what state women are in they still have to muster up some fight to get basic human things like their milk to their hours old baby.

HoldMyLobster · 12/10/2020 03:16

Well done OP, and congratulations.

I had a similar thing happen with my second. Give it a few days or even weeks, then if you can, it's worth going over the birth with a midwife. Clarify exactly what happened, with times and notes.

Good luck with two children!
@ineedaholidaynow how did you manage with just gas and air for it?!

I had a spinal but the force she used with her upper body on my tummy was ridiculous even with a spinal! To the point where they offered me a general anthestic! I didn’t accept but you must be a machine to have it done with G&A! Well done - I’m in awe!!
I had the procedure with just gas and air, and screamed my way through it. Then after a few hours they then realised there must be a lot left, as I was still haemorrhaging, so I went into theatre. Like you I was amazed at how much force the doctor had to use. At the end she still wasn't sure she'd got it all, and said it had been very stuck. She was literally tearing it away.

If it happened again my plan was to go straight for theatre and general anaesthetic, but fortunately my next placenta behaved itself.

@HoldMyLobster I'm now feeling I was braver than I thought I was at the time. I am such a wuss when it comes to anything medical, which is why I didn't want to go into theatre. I always refer to it as a James Herriot moment. The consultant was describing what he was doing all the time, and DH kept telling him I really didn't want to know!

Hope everything is going ok today @OhToBeASeahorse

OhToBeASeahorse · 14/10/2020 01:39

Thanks everyone.

I felt much better about her birth, decided it was a freak accident and really just one of those things.

However she is now really being sick after feeds (my milk came in today) and I can't settle her.

DS was a difficult baby and it nearly broke me. I'm so worried about DD and worried about the future.

@OhToBeASeahorse I hope you managed to get some sleep during the night - sucky babies are just so exhausting!

If you think she is being disproportionately sick please speak to your health visitor as a matter of urgency. She could be intolerant to food, or have a medical issue needing some intervention. The sooner to get this addressed - or dismissed - the sooner your life will return to normality.
