Help needed with dd’s homework

This is dd’s homework

Cooking is not my biggest strength so I don’t know where to start....any ideas please?

As we know Superheroes need to be extra strong and really healthy to carry out their life saving work and protect our world.

Unfortuately, due to Covid 19 restrictions, cooking in school is a little challenging at the moment but for your homework this week I would like to you to create and make a healthy snack for a Superhero. Think carefully about what this might need to include (fruit, vegetables, protein, carbohydrates) as they will need lots of energy.

Primary school?

What does your DD like to eat? Start there with ingredients she likes for inspiration.

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/10/2020 14:03

fruity nutty flapjacks?

some kind of bean & meat soup?

NoSquirrels · 10/10/2020 14:03

e.g. baguette/pitta pizza can be a healthy snack for a superhero (carbs - bread; protein - cheese, lean meat e.g chicken; veg - sweetcorn/peppers/tomato sauce/purée)

toffeekiwi · 10/10/2020 14:06

A lighter version of the old tin miners cornish pasty with pudding at one end and meat at the other. She could use a wholemeal wrap or a pitta bread and then have a fruit andnutcombination at one end and a mix of beans and vegetables at the other.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 10/10/2020 14:07

Hummus, whole grain crackers, crudités

formerbabe · 10/10/2020 14:08

I was thinking pitta pizzas too...great minds @NoSquirrels

BigFatLiar · 10/10/2020 14:10

Ninja Turtles eat pizza
Popeye eats spinach (maybe not a superhero)

SeaToSki · 10/10/2020 14:11

Something portable as a Superhero never knows when she will have to spring into action. How about small pouches of trail mix. Nuts, dried fruit, seeds, choc chips, cereal. Customizable for what each Superhero specifically likes and doesnt need refrigeration or heating

Whatwouldnanado · 10/10/2020 14:11

Frittata and flapjack with fresh apple. Should get higher marks if she has to actually cook not just assemble.

Soubriquet · 10/10/2020 14:13

Fab thank you all.

We have to put it all/cook it together and take a photo and upload up on Twitter so this is a big help.

Honestly, if it’s primary school homework I would not be expending lots of extra thought on this. The teachers just checking understanding of ‘healthy meal components’. Superhero stuff is just to make it sound more fun. Make any snack you like as simple as you like - banana & peanut butter sandwiches - and just write what the carbs/protein/fruit&veg is and why a superhero would like it.

SillyCow6 · 10/10/2020 14:16

Mini quiches without the pastry
Cut wraps into quarters and put cheese, wafer thin chicken/ham and maybe peas into them and grill so the cheese holds them together
Some kind of flapjack with oats, berries, raisins etc
Yoghurt bark with berries and granola crumbled over it

JoanApple · 10/10/2020 14:18

Cottage pie, using 5% fat mince, added veggies. Banana for afters.

BobbyGentry · 10/10/2020 14:18

Quick google superhero snacks:

  1. Thor’s hammer (cube of cheese on a twiglet)
  2. Spider-Man strawberry (add eyes)
  3. Hulk jelly (decorate cup)

Yes its primary and it’s going to double up as dc’s tea that night so it won’t entirely go to waste

I think we will go with the pitta pizzas.

Sounds like a nice easy idea, something both of my children will enjoy, and easy for them to cook too.

What on earth is a mini-quiche without the pastry?

user128472578267 · 10/10/2020 14:33

Isn't the point of the exercise that the child does the thinking not you?

pastandpresent · 10/10/2020 14:44

user128472578267, I thought that too. Whole process of talking about what's healthy meal with children is important part of home work, not actual cooking part for sure? Parents asking online and deciding what's good meal totally negate the point of homework imo.

Good point Blush

I’ll save this for the back up then if dd honestly cannot think of what would be a good healthy superhero meal.

She doesn't need to think all by herself, you can give her a guidance and help.

Soubriquet · 10/10/2020 15:18

I think it will be 50/50

So if she says pizza, I can steer her towards pitta pizza and explain how it can be healthy etc etc

She’s 7

eddiemairswife · 10/10/2020 17:42

What is pitta pizza?

Soubriquet · 10/10/2020 17:44

From google, it’s a pita bread with tomato purée and pizza toppings on it which is then cooked
