What do you have in your kitchen - curtains or blinds or something else?

I'm updating my kitchen. I don't like curtains or blinds. My two windows are tall and narrow.

Any recommendations?

Iv got a blinde I had curtains before but was forever washing them or changing them. I only had to boil potatoes and they would be ringing wet from the steam and that's with the window open! Very often the bottom on the curtains got damp spots. Me being unwilling to take them down and properly dry them after cooking!! Had absolutely no problems with the blind tho. X

U could get that stuff they have in hotels, the frosted window stuff that sticks to the window itself. However I don't think they r much use when it gets dark outside and u have a light on. Depends on what your after I suppose Smile

I'm having this same issue. Just moved house and unsure about window coverings for the kitchen (previously upstairs flat with voil wrapped round pole).

My new kitchen backs onto the main parking area in the street so people can see right into my kitchen.

@Crinkleypeach what kind of blinds do you have?

I have one of those day/night blinds in my kitchen. I can have it fully down and just look through the see through bits or have it fully up with window open in Summer. I used to have a Roman Blind up there and I loved it but got quite dirty/greasy from all the cooking.

I went into dunelm and I actually got one of their nighttime blackout blinds. Don't get me wrong it is not pretty or got a kitchen pattern or anything fancy but it's the right colour for other things in my kitchen, toaster microwave etc. It's right in close to the window as well and I always make sure it's rolled right up when cooking and the window is open for steam. I figured it's only me and the other half they would really take any notice of it and it's a good colour fit for the kitchen so I'm happy enough. X

We bought a blind after having nothing for over a decade. I threw out the hideous curtain that was there when I moved in.
The blind is still in the packet and has been for years.
One day I'll get round to fitting it 😁

I have these, wooden Venetian blinds with thick slats to mimic shutters, and with tapes, they are lovely in real life. You get different colours and slat sizes.

I’d not recommend getting curtains in a kitchen, that’s somewhat akin to carpeting it.

Nothing. No blinds. No reason - no overlooking housing or blinding sunshine. Just kept lovely victorian frames.

I have cafe curtain in my kitchen. My window is very wide, all across the south wall, facing the garden, so I wanted something light and country style. And very easy to wash too, so I love it.

White blinds, my kitchen window is huge and overlooks a park so definitely need them.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 09/10/2020 21:14

Nothing. No one into looks it, garden one side s and animals the other side. With high walls immediately after.

Would have curtains if needed

pinkyboots1 · 09/10/2020 21:24

I have black Venetian blinds but they're always pulled up 3/4 so they're like a thick 'band' across the top of the window. Not to everybody's taste but match all the black appliances and break up the window space

Thanks all. I'm still undecided - although a combination of frosting film on the bottom half and a Venetian blind pulled up during the day sounds promising.
