Mammogram call back, anyone had this?

Mammogram last week, letter today asking me to go for another appointment next week..anyone had this?

Never had a mammogram before so not sure what is normal and what isn’t...

I think it's quite common after your first, cysts are y common for example

you not get sent a leaflet saying percentages called back and what they most likely cause was?

Its not uncommon and may just have not been a good picture. Anything obviously sinister is not dealt with through recall.

I was told specifically at mine last month that a call back meant that they didn’t have good enough pictures.

When I had my first one they told me that something upwards of 30% of first timers get called back as they’ve no comparison pictures so anything remotely odd gets a recall .

I would agree that anything potentially sinister looking would mean more investigation rather than a call back. Far more likely to want to try to get better images x

I had a callback, turned out I’d breast cancer. However, even with callbacks only a small percentage turn out to be anything to worry about.

The letter is not for a “call back” it’s for further investigations... does that make any difference?

Sometimes it's for photos, sometimes it's to get another view of something they saw on the first one. You might have microcalcifications, which they like to take a second look at but which aren't dangerous or bad. Can I ask how old you are?

I’m 50.
No family history at all for breast ca,
Breast fed both children, my 2nd until his 3rd birthday.
No lumps, bumps or changes to my boobs.
Was sent for a routine mammogram because, apparently..I’m old!
Was very surprised to be called as I fully expected nothing to be seen.

The letter says something about a further look, may need needle aspiration, USS, that’s what alarmed me a bit.
I tend to not worry about health, quite laid back to be honest as I am never ever ill, don’t remember the last time I had any illness, years and years ago.

I was called back after my first one here in UK. Had had where we lived before as they stat at age 40 there.

Got called here at age 52. Recalled and I assumed it was just that they needed a better picture.

Had another mammogram and ultrasound and a biopsy there and then. It was cancer. No lump. It was called DCIS which is Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. It hadn’t spread. I had it removed and then three weeks of radiotherapy. That was 4 years ago. Have yearly mammograms now and have been clear since.

So it might be that they need to have another look or it might be that there is something. But it’s good that it’s found early. I was very worried obviously. It is scary no doubt about it. But it can be very treatable these days.

I am also 50 and had a callback this year. The Dr told me that at this age, breasts can get 'busy' for a few years, then calm down again - it's to do with hormonal changes from the menopause. In my case there was a cluster of calcification they wanted to look at as it's different from the usual scattered microcalcifications. I did end up with needle and then surgical biopsy, but was all clear.

Also, if this is your first-ever mammogram, they have nothing to compare it to, ie they don't know yet what is normal for you. In US and Canada we have mammograms regularly from age 40 so it is easier for them to compare year to year and see if anything has changed.

Try not to worry right now. No doctor or technician looking at your mammogram results ever says 'ah, let's leave that, it's probably ok'. They check everything very carefully.

Really reassuring thanks, even the stories where cancer has been found doesn’t really send me into panic mode.
I know it’s very treatable for the most part.
Nothing to do but go along and see what’s what.

My sister had her first mammogram and was called back for further investigation recently, she had a cyst which they aspirated with a needle.

I had an identical experience to nandocushion. Also, there was no hanging about waiting for results, it was all done in one day. Obviously it's a worrying time for you but hope you're reassured by our positive experiences. X

The letter also says to prepare to be there for between 2-4 hours!!!

I had a call back too! And for me personally I could feel a lump but!!!! When the consultant saw my pictures she was able to tell me that it was just scar build up from a previous operation I had had.

Yes, it was just to pop a cyst, it’s all normal so don’t worry

I was called back and I was there for 3 hours! They had seen something on the mammogram so I had to have another, then a punch biopsy and they put a 'marker' in the breast so it can be seen on future mammograms.
Turns out it was calcification and I now have yearly mammograms. I was 51 at the time.
Hopefully yours will be nothing sinister
