Any Mumsnetters in Germany? Help!

Hello! Wondering if there's any Mumsnetters in Germany that can help me? My SIL has been diagnosed with cancer and needs a major operation and will have a long recovery. I'd like to send some bakery goods and also frozen meals if they have anything like Cook there?! If anyone has any ideas I'd be most grateful.

Thanks!

First of all - where is she?
I do not know if we have cook, but her after care team might know if there is an equivalent.
She might even be entitled to a domestic help payed for by health insurance.
I know I was.

Germany is really well set up (far better than the UK) for convalescence & recovery. As @Prokupatuscrakedatus says, there may already be local services for this. Maybe go to the website of the local city council and their info on local health care provision to see if they have any information about this (if you read German ...).

... or switch to English, there ought to be a button somewhere

There are two companies, www.bofrost.de/ and shop.eismann.de/, that deliver frozen foods including ready-meal type things and bakery products to your door. I don't know if they're nice, they're not exactly cheap, but if she has the freezer space you could certainly stock her up easily.

I also keep getting HelloFresh advertising to me, but I guess that still involves standing at the cooker a bit so maybe not what you'd want?

Online supermarket deliveries aren't quite such a thing, mostly only available in bigger cities. Amazon grocery or whatever its called is not very big yet either as far as I know. If you want to specify the region a little closer we can have a look.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus she's in Berlin. And yes I believe she is entitled to home help with her insurance. Which is amazing! I just feel bad we can't do anything and would love to send some things even if it's just some bakery treats.

@SecondRow thanks so much. Yes I think standing at the cooker won't be possible for a while. Thanks for those two options, I will check them out.

Also, many community groups organized shopping for elderly or vulnerable people during the first wave of Corona. Some of these stood down back in the summer as things had normalized here a good bit but as numbers are rising again at the moment the willingness will still be there to help out, I am sure. It would be a personal decision whether she wanted to ask/accept help from such a local group, though.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 11:19

Ok, I am in Berlin, too.
Who is her health insurer?
As PP said there are companies that do this type of delivery and they are heavyly trying to push Hello Fresh and cook boxes and other type of high end ready meals. (I can't comment on that, the whole concept seems strange to me and wasteful.)
Some supermarkets deliver (REWE), but if I were ill and needed food, I'd ask the provided help or a friend / neighbour.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2020 11:21

She may also be entilted to an all round rehabilitation period at a special home.

kiwiblue · 09/10/2020 11:31

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I don't know who her insurer is but she checked it out and is entitled to domestic help, she said she thinks it's cleaning and childcare?

I guess it's not that she needs food, I know she's stocking up herself and her neighbours will take stuff I'm sure, but I just wanted to help/ send some treats for her and show we're thinking of her even if we can't do anything. So maybe the frozen meals doesn't make sense. Is there a bakery we could order from a website and send some things? She still has a couple of weeks until the surgery.

@SecondRow we looked at those ones you suggested and they look pretty good! I found an article on them that I will try to translate!
