To expect a speeding ticket or not?

I was driving through a town centre this afternoon.

Speed camera van was parked at the side of the road.

The limit was 30mph and I drove up towards it and I was doing 31mph. I went back down to 30mph as soon as I seen it.

I know there are tolerances in some areas, I live in NI, so I’m not quite sure whether to expect a notice through my door.

I doubt you will get a ticket.
Isn’t there 10% leeway? Therefore you could have been doing 33mph and still not get a ticket.

I doubt you’d get a ticket for 31mph. How did you know it was 31? Unless it was a satnav telling you, it’s likely you were going as fast as that anyway.

I have a digital speedo. So I was able to tell I was doing 31

There is leeway for car speedos being slightly off. For 1mph more, I really doubt they’ll ticket you.

When I did a speeding course they said there is no 10% leeway. People on the course were there for doing 31 in a 30.

If your Speedo was showing 31, you will have been doing about 26 to 28 mph as they all over read even digital ones, so no need to worry.

To check, set a sat nav or your phone on sat nav running and check the speed shown, it will be lower than the Speedo.

You will be ok reason is whilst you can be done for 31 in a 30 the ACPO guidelines say 10%+2 the can fine at so 35mph in this instance Your digital speedo can read up to 10% high (sometimes more unless you have an ex police car then it is exactly calibrated). So you could have been doing 27mph and therefore be fully 7mph below the speed they will fine you at.

Indeed the MET is 10% + 3 mph

You should be ok. Digital speedos are not necessarily more accurate, just more precise.
