Have you sniffed your water? My tea started tasting wrong a day or so ago and the water from my tap smells sort of like chlorine/metallic. Water filtered by the fridge is fine.

PollyPelargonium52 · 08/10/2020 15:05

Yorkshire tea has gone downhill of late. I have started buying extra strong PG Tips instead.

DotBall · 08/10/2020 15:08

Ordinary Yorkshire is a bit meh.
Biscuit Yorkshire is foul.
Yorkshire Gold is the better brew.

Agree with this, I live in an area where when we have a lot of rainfall the water company add chlorine to the water to presumably keep it safe. But it definitely has an odd taste to it and ruins a good cup of tea! 😤

Every so often our hot drinks ( coffee & tea) taste awful. We have decided it's something to do with the water company and them doing 'something'

SlopesOff · 08/10/2020 15:37

I drink the Yorkshire Gold and every so often there is a duff box. I also have the red (but it is inferior) and it may also be a duff box.

If you leave them out they pick up whatever is in the atmosphere and can make terrible tea. I never keep mine in the box because once opened they tend to taste unpleasant.

I use filtered water and make only one cup at a time with a single cup water heater, however it does have a reservoir which needs to be emptied. I can tell when the water filter needs replacing and the one cup heater needs a clean and I do not clean it with vinegar because I can taste it.

@Anordinarymum

Don't get me started on Yorkshire Tea. In Yorkshire we call it 'having a cup of tea, or' mashing the tea' if it's in a pot. Yorkshire people do not have 'a brew'. I hate those stupid adverts with a passion because they were made by clueless idiots
Yorkshire people definitely do have a brew haha. My dh and his family are Yorkshire and call it a brew. Mashing is Derbyshire!
BobBobBobbing · 08/10/2020 15:54

Dh has been complaining about yorkshire tea tasting funny and having a scum on it for a while. We thought it was cos the water company have been dicking about switching our water from reservoir to borehole.

He's switched to sainsbury's red label which seems ok.

Nooch · 08/10/2020 15:55

It's a brew in the part of Yorkshire I'm in too! It is a huge are after all.

notangelinajolie · 08/10/2020 15:57

I'm thinking Covid.

WildRosie · 08/10/2020 15:58

I don't have Yorkshire Tea but the tea I do have, and coffee as well, hasn't tasted so good recently. I put this down to the antibiotics I've been on and have now finished. Altering your sense of taste is a known temporary side-effect.

Readytogogogo · 08/10/2020 16:02

Another vote for going off tea when pregnant. Hopefully not Covid as per pp!

AldiAisleofCrap · 08/10/2020 16:02

Are you pregnant?

3catsandcounting · 08/10/2020 16:03

@1forAll74 have you tried Lady Grey tea?
I've just discovered it and love it!

Piratetree · 08/10/2020 16:05

I’m only pregnant if dp is too 😂

I’m so glad some of you have said about the water because I said I thought it was the water and my suggestion was ridiculed. Now I feel vindicated Grin

I use leaf tea. I've only been able to get PG tips leaf tea for a while.

Since Covid it has noticeably deteriorated. Where two spoonfuls would make a pot strong enough for two decent mugs of tea, I've found that I now need three spoonfuls.

I've had a leaf tea habit for over twenty years and the spoon has stayed the same size. So, I would say that the quality has gone down markedly.

ClashCityRocker · 08/10/2020 16:07

In my part of Yorkshire it's a brew too.

I must admit the last pack of Yorkshire teabags I had were marginally disappointing...

safariboot · 08/10/2020 16:09

Yorkshire Tea make several kinds, could be the wrong one?

Out of date box?

Milk gone off? Or wrong kind of milk. Or even just changes to its taste, I read milk tastes different with the seasons?

Water changes? If a pipe bursts they sometimes have to route the water from a different source and the taste changes.

Washing up/dishwasher residue?

Or you've got the rona, in which case hope you get well soon.

BertieBotts · 08/10/2020 16:09

Weirdly DH did get a lot of the same aversions/taste things as me when pregnant Confused it was totally bizarre.

If you've bought a massive box maybe the tea has gone stale? We find this sometimes when we do that.

SlopesOff · 08/10/2020 16:10

One more thing - if you are using mint it will destroy your taste buds, I use the Vit D spray and tea is foul afterwards for quite a while.

Also antacid meds.

AriesTheRam · 08/10/2020 16:11

I've just had a brew and I'm Yorkshire born and bred
