Zoé Covid app, invited to test, no usual symptoms

So I use the Zoe covid app, have been logging every day almost since it came out. I'm back to work ft and knackered due to (perimenopausal?) insomnia. I entered yes to feeling fatigue and sleeplessness yesterday (but not by any means the first time I've input this since I got the app) and was thanked for updating. Today I get an email inviting me for a test - with a big emphasis on a 'particular combination of symptoms' and they are inviting people to test including those who they think don't have covid so they can research trends/patterns in my area.

I feel 100% OK, would absolutely get tested if I had any of the official symptoms, and I assume that I'm just tired from life in general and hormones.

WIBU to take the test? I'm a big supporter of research (which is what is behind the app) in any form anyway

They do this to see if other symptoms are potential covid symptoms. I believe it’s how they decided lack of taste was an official symptom.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 07/10/2020 18:13

Yes, in theory you absolutely should take the test if invited to do so.

But Zoe has suggested I test three times over the past six months - I was only able to access a test on the first occasion. Nothing available the second and third times.

So ... good luck with actually getting the test.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 07/10/2020 18:13

Definitely not unreasonable to take the test if you've been invited as it's how they rule out certain symptoms as being linked to the virus. I have frequent headaches and have had quite a few of the same emails from the Zoe app. I've had a couple of tests as a result but have also ignored the email a couple of times.

The Times says this morning that infections are being missed because there are not enough symptoms listed in the testing guidelines ...

Vicious cycle. Not enough tests available so we're not learning about the virus fast enough, so more people are getting ill, needing more tests ...

Hope you can get one.

Booked for this afternoon, hopefully able to contribute to the research one way or another!

Yes, you should take it as the data helps - I took one in May when I had a sore throat and was 99% sure it wasn't COVID, but I knew they needed the negatives as well as positives to pick up on patterns.

lurker101 · 08/10/2020 11:47

It’s a good thing to do - I tested for them in July when I had a headache and a sore throat. Came back negative, as expected, 33 hours later

gurglebelly · 08/10/2020 12:52

I've had the same email but am in two minds as I am due to go away at the weekend - I have none of the classic symptoms (just a headache and felt a bit tired - but that is most likely work stress)

When you take the test do you have to isolate until you get the result?

ThreePipeProblems · 08/10/2020 12:53

Yes, I’ve been invited twice to have tests for them and have done so both times.

BlackInk · 08/10/2020 12:54

Hi, I've just had the same Zoe message inviting me for a test, after reporting nausea and shivering yesterday. I've requested a postal home test kit, but I almost didn't as they are symptoms I do get from time to time (but I logged them because I definitely didn't feel physically normal). Feel almost guilty getting a test, but think it's the right thing to have done...

No, if you don't have any of the 3 symptoms you don't need to isolate until you get your test results
Lindy2 · 08/10/2020 13:05

I've been asked to test due to a sore throat.

I've just booked a home test. It was very easy to book. I had a choice of home test, local drive in and also a walk in a bit further away. At the beginning of September I really struggled to get DD tested so I'm really pleased the test situation is much much better now.

It's part of the Zoe research. I signed up to help so if they think me getting a test for a sore throat is helpful then that is what I'll do. There's no point being part of the research if you don't do what they need you to do.

givemushypeasachance · 08/10/2020 14:05

I've been asked to get a test from them a couple of times - including last week as I had a sore throat. It was negative, it's just a cold, but they have official permission to send people for tests to check out symptom patterns so worthwhile doing imo.

TheySeeHerRowling · 08/10/2020 14:08

I was invited to take a test when I had mild cold symptoms a couple of weeks ago - I would have done it if any had been available Hmm

By the time I could get hold of one I was right as rain again

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 08/10/2020 18:52

So that wasn't terribly pleasant. At all. Did the one where they do the test for you through the car window, grim. Just waiting for the results now.

I've been to work as normal as I'm not displaying any of the advised symptoms, very covid-secure workplace is completely OK with that.

Urrrgh ... After all my lecturing, I now have a fourth invitation to test. Had a headache all week that I couldn't shake off with paracetamol. No other symptoms except tiredness and irritability from headache. Which miraculously disappeared hours after the stressful event I had been worrying about was over. Hmm

Feel completely well now.

Anyway, I could only do a home test - there won't be any available ...

It does sound grim having it done by someone else in a car park!

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 10/10/2020 10:48

Negative result here. But since come down with a horrible head cold... And chesty productive cough! To retest or not...?

I did a test at request of the app in May. It’s just to see what other symptoms there might be.

SallySolardel · 10/10/2020 11:33

I was invited to test because I had a headache, but I'd just had a test which was negative and I'd told them that

Lindy2 · 10/10/2020 14:11

PersephonePromotesEquanimity You probably could get a home test now. The problems of a couple of weeks ago seem to have resolved.

I booked a test on Thursday and had an instant choice of home test, drive through or walk in. I chose the home test which arrived the next day and was back in the post to them within 24 hours of first being ordered. I was impressed.
