Can I just have a moan about wisdom tooth/mouth pain?

Ohhh it's doing my head in! ☹️

It started on Sunday and carried on into Monday - not horrendously painful but more than just discomfort. I was confused because I'm pretty sure that WT came through ages ago and hasn't ever caused me any problems.

I called the dentist on Mon to try and make an app but they're only taking emergencies and after asking me some questions the dentist didn't think I needed one. She advised me to brush the area (top right) thoroughly twice a day and do a salt rinse 4 x per day.

I done that yesterday, think I brushed 3 x and done 5 x salt rinse but it's still there this morning! Although I can't decide if the pain is as much in my gum/around the tooth as it was, but is more in the soft tissue on the right side of my mouth now where it all feels a bit aggravated/tender. Is that normal?

Should I expect it to take a few days to settle down? Can I use Bonjela around that area? I am taking ibuprofen to help ease it.

Thanks anyone who read all that Grin I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today but happy to crack on as I am if it may just take a few days to sort itself out.

Also still struggling to open my mouth this morning, which means it's a struggle to eat anything (although my waistline is appreciative Grin)

I'm a dental nurse and we would have seen you as sounds like an infection. Phone back. Tell them you're struggling to open your mouth because it's painful and the pain has got worse. They still have a duty of care.

If previously you were not cleaning around your back teeth properly which is a common problem all the plaque and other nasties will get stuck there making it inflamed and sore and can cause an infection. For your back teeth I really recommend tepe compact tuft brush. They're brilliant for back teeth.

@MasksGlovesSoapScrubs thanks for the reply! Appreciate the advice too Smile

Is it worth me just continuing the salt rinse today to see if that helps the inside of my mouth? And calling them tomorrow if that's no better? Just had a poke with my tongue and I'm fairly confident the pain around my actual tooth is gone now 🤔

I mean I'm not a medical expert so can't say for sure but if you fee it could be slightly better just carry on with the salt rinse and painkillers and see how you feel. Definitely give the tooth a good brush around.
As I said though I'm not trained to give out medical advice just my opinion Smile

I think I'll try again all day today with the salt rinse, and maybe get some bonjela to use on the inside of my mouth!

If it's feeling no better tomorrow then I'll call back - I didn't think to ask her how long I should stick with it.

Thanks Smile
