How much do you pay your babysitter? Going out for a few hours tomorrow eve, teenage relative babysitting, 1 young DC, 1 older but she pretty much looks after herself (but not quite old enough to babysit)
Does £15-£20 sound reasonable (I won’t be more than 3/4 hours) x

We paid £8. 50 ph but they were qualified nursery workers. South East.

NandosPeriometer · 05/10/2020 20:20

Minimum wage plus taxi home is perfect so you're on the right lines imo (mother of teens here)

combatbarbie · 05/10/2020 20:34

Wow, £5 an hour where I am, no requirement for taxi and usually give them domino's log in

edwinbear · 05/10/2020 20:40

We pay £10 ph also in London, plus lots of snacks.

My nearly 15 years old DD charges £15 before midnight and £5 for each hour after.

She is (obviously) not qualified, generally arrives after the children have gone to / just going up to bed (7pm ish) and basically acts as a safe person in the house.

Parents leave contact details for emergencies. She is very popular with family and friends working at least 2 days a month.

No uber or cab option where we live so I pick up and drop off, which is bloody annoying for me!!

FurrySlipperBoots · 05/10/2020 20:47

For a qualified adult you're usually looking at £10-15ph, but for a teenage relative I'd say £5ph is fine. Will you be feeding them? Maybe get some treats in for her to sweeten the deal - hot chocolate and posh biscuits maybe, or fancy crisps?

JoJoSM2 · 05/10/2020 20:50

Our babysitter charges £10 p/h. Lives locally so just walks back.

Arabiannightss · 05/10/2020 22:59

Thank you, sounds like I’m on the right track,
I’ve got some extra snacks in ready for her too
