Soaking through maternity pads - GP?

Not the period troll .

I’ve always had heavy periods, I’m using maternity towels as they’re longer and seem more absorbent . I’m leaking even with them.

I’ve soaked through two this morning and have just had to change clothes again, shower a second time etc .

Is it worth contacting a GP today or am I likely to just be told it’s all normal and put up with it? I’ve got a diagnosis of PCOS and endometriosis .

Definitely see your GP and don't be fobbed off. How old are you? Peri-menopause? (When I had this, I was prescribed tranexamic acid to help with the bleeding, but eventually had a scan which discovered a fibroid.)

Definitely call your gp, as above says, they can prescribe tranexamic acid.
You don't need to suffer this, hopefully you'll get some tablets to slow the bleeding and then some investigation if needed.
Good luck

Definitely contact your GP.

Have you moved to maternity pads because sanitary towels were leaking? Just thinking that maternity towels don't have the gel core stuff that sanitary towels have so they might not actually hold as much despite being thicker?

I’m 29 so hopefully not near the menopause just yet !

Yes was leaking through everything and finding they were leaving me sore as well . Using Tesco’s own brand maternity things for the last few months .

I’ll definitely give the GP a ring then, I figured they’d probably say there’s little they can do but I’m absolutely exhausted with it all . Hopefully they can get it slowed down a bit !

Of course there's something they can do, OP. Can you imagine a GP telling a male patient that he was 'just going to have to deal' with blood pouring from his penis monthly in such amounts that he was leaking through every possible type of padding, having to change his clothes multiple times a day because of blood leakage etc?

If you're feeling tired, also get your bloods checked -- it caused me serious anaemia to the point it made it difficult to function normally, even aside from the bleeding.

Def see the GP. Also start taking iron pills and a serious multivitamin with minerals. That much blood loss every month will be dragging down your reserves

I am also pretty sure that maternity pads aren’t as absorbent, despite being thicker. I think they are made that way to enable you to better see what is coming out and whether it’s anything to be worried about, at least that’s what my midwife told me. Have you tried night time towels instead?
