Lumie clock... Worth it?

Just that really. I like the sound of it but is it worth it?

It would be a present from my parents so just the basic £40 one.

Any reviews?

I loved the idea and got one 2 years ago but i haven't really used it.

At the time one of my kids would wake up really early so I was usually up before the alarm/light. Since then, I get up earlier than DH so the light coming on would really disturb and wake him up before he needs to. So it's been a bit of a waste for me. Still love the idea though

DuesToTheDirt · 05/10/2020 12:56

Yes. Waking up is a gradual, pleasant process rather than a shock.

SilenceOfThePrams · 05/10/2020 13:09

Looking into them myself and frequent comments on reviews for the basic one is that it’s lowest light setting is still too bright, so you ping awake to that not gently as it comes on.

And second common comment is that you have to set it each night not just leave it set. I’d forget to do that, so I’m hanging out for a more expensive version.

Mine’s old now so a different model but I love it. I used to fall back to sleep when an alarm went off but don’t when I wake with the light.

ButterFox · 05/10/2020 13:13

I love mine, I'd never go back!

UncleBunclesHouse · 05/10/2020 13:13

I like it especially for getting up early in the depths of winter, but have the Mid-range one as reviews for the basic model were not brilliant

lalaloopyhead · 05/10/2020 13:14

I had one and absolutely loved it, I had a fancier model (present from DH) which also did gradual darkness and soothing sounds for sleep aswell. I absolutely loved it...unfortunately it got knocked on the floor a couple of times and stopped working. I got a cheap one (not Lumia) and it just isn't the same - the light isn't anywhere near as gradual...don't like the sounds so much etc.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/10/2020 13:16

I have the mid range one from a few years ago. Honestly it’s fantastic.

I loved not having to put The Big Light on in the morning and being blinded.

kleew1 · 05/10/2020 14:21

Thanks for all the comments. Will maybe try go with the better one up then! Love the idea of the room also getting darker gradually.

I love mine, and their customer service has been good, too.

quirkychick · 05/10/2020 14:26

I've had one for years, I'm on my second one. Mine is probably an old model, it just does the light. I also like the light dimming to help you go to sleep. So much better than being woken in the dark, especially in winter.

Suckmuckduck · 05/10/2020 14:49

Mine is old too, so they might have improved it, but it was too bright on a morning for me. I stopped using it.

showmethegin · 05/10/2020 14:57

I've got the £120 model. It's changed my life. Best money I've ever spent

PhoneAddict · 05/10/2020 15:13

I got this one (hopefully picture attached) in the Black Friday sale a couple of years ago from Amazon. I think it was worth the money. It's nice to have the gradual wake up, and if I'm sleeping really heavily the sound wakes me up instead (I have it set to birds chirping, which is also a gradual increase, just of sound).

It's much more pleasant than being jerked awake. And I also like it because it acts as my bedside lamp, so I can have it as bright or as dim as I like. I tend to go to sleep way before DP so I just dim it quite far so he can see when he comes to bed, then he switches it off.

Lumie clock... Worth it?
TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/10/2020 15:17

Very jealous PhoneAddict- my model only offers a loud beeping noise as the wake up alarm which sounds like a fucking rape alarm.

I put up with it because the light function works so well but I am very envious of waking up to birds chirping like Snow White

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 05/10/2020 15:18

I had one absolutely years ago, and loved it, so when it finally died (too many rough house moves) I bought another, but their cheaper model.

Like others, the gradual lighting on the cheaper model isn't as good at all (I find the initial bit to bright), but to deal with that I have it down a bit lower so it's not right in my face on the bedside cabinet.

I find I mind waking up a lot less when it'a a gradual dawn vs. the immediate honking of an alarm.

Don't use the 'nature' noises or the gradual go to sleep though, never found them useful.

kittykarate · 05/10/2020 15:35

I don't have a Lumie, but I have a Pure Twilight. Definitely helps me wake up in winter/dark mornings compared to just having a clock radio.

PhoneAddict · 05/10/2020 15:38

If it helps. @TerribleCustomerCervix they're still universally hated in our household for insisting we wake up, and are referred to as 'those mean old birdies' Grin

EmmaStone · 05/10/2020 16:01

Mine's quite old too. I don't wake up with the light (I don't need the dark to sleep), but my 'alarm' is the sound of waves which get gradually louder. This is MUCH nicer than a normal alarm (confirmed when I occasionally decamp to the spare room and have to rely on my Ipad's alarm, which is always very jarring). I used to have the birds chirping, but then when it starts getting light early in the mornings, I couldn't differentiate between real birds outside and my alarm Grin.

showmethegin · 05/10/2020 16:27

@PhoneAddict That's the model I've got, total game changer. As a PP said it's a great reading light too

Gulsink · 05/10/2020 19:10

I got these ones for the kids bedrooms, so they stayed in bed until the light came on. They cost £8 each last year. I'm surprised how good they are for the price.

Yeah I've had thaf trouble too! Mine has two bird settings though, one more like local birds and one more jungly. I use the jungly one so I don't get confused.

Delatron · 05/10/2020 21:41

I love mine. I noticed it had a real positive impact on my mood last year. So much better than getting up in the dark.

My only issue is that I’m such a light sleeper I wake up as soon as the light starts coming on. So if you set your alarm for say 6 I think the light starts coming on 15 mins before then so I ended up waking too early.

So I have to set it for just after I want to wake and the light wakes me but I have a back up phone alarm. That’s just me though!

RandomMess · 05/10/2020 21:43

I used to wake up as soon as the light started so no good for me Sad

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 05/10/2020 21:51

I have the same model as phone addict above. I like it, but it's not the easiest to setup and in fact I haven't got around to setting it up this year because it's a pain. The radio isn't a great sound either. I ended up buying a separate radio just so I could hear the news crackle free.
