What do you do on rainy days like today?

It's been lashing down here all day, even my dog hasn't wanted to be out! She's only had a short walk and would happily have stayed in!

BUT.... I feel 'guilty' if I have a quiet one and don't 'do' a lot. For info, I've got adult children who live at their own places, a part time job and live alone apart from pets. My time's my own so I shouldn't feel bad or lazy for sitting reading, Mumsnetting or binge watching!

What do YOU do days like today? And if it's not a lot do you also feel bad?

I do as little as possible. If Joe blogs wants to tell the world they did x, y z do be it. I never feel guilty. My life, my time on earth.

TazMac · 03/10/2020 19:31

Funny you should say that, I just looked out of the window and thought thank god we didn’t have to go out today.

We have done a bit of batch cooking and listened to the radio, some cleaning and just chilled. Today was definitely a day for nesting.

Heptember · 03/10/2020 19:32

I watched Onward on Disney+

Drank a couple of Baileys. Ordered a Chinese takeaway.

I did put the dishwasher on if that counts?

To be fair, this mornings activity was cancelled due to the weather, so there was an original plan, but no guilt here.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 03/10/2020 19:32

What I planned to do was sleep in til noon and laze around doing nothing on the sofa cocooned in a blanket. Ended up sorting out the garage, tidying and doing loads of laundry because the estate agent rang at 8am and woke me up! Hmm I'd feel no guilty about having a lazy day when it's like this.

Imissmoominmama · 03/10/2020 19:33

I usually bake, for that feeling of warmth and homeliness... and for cake to eat Grin.

Imissmoominmama · 03/10/2020 19:34

But today I was on a bushcraft course.

Brockwell · 03/10/2020 19:34

Well today I went to work, so I got rained on Grin

But if I'm not outside getting soaked I'd be in doing some housework or watching telly.

Enrico · 03/10/2020 19:37

I actually went into town because there was stuff I wanted to buy that I wanted to see first rather than go online. The rain was a good thing as I could use my brolly to force people/pavement cyclists to social distance in a "clumsy middle aged woman" kind of way hahaha.

LiveFromHome · 03/10/2020 19:37

We slept in till 9am, walked the dog in the rain, had a trip to Costco, I did an hour of ironing and changed DS bedsheets, cooked tea - well I say cooked tea, I put some Costco BBQ ribs in the oven with some cheesy tear and share bread, opened a bottle of wine, and will spend the evening on MN or we might find something on TV to watch.

MrsMaryBOOface · 03/10/2020 19:37

I used to feel guilty if I didn't leave the house on my days off, but since lockdown and working from home, I have relaxed into it and can often not leave the house for days!
Embrace it OP

SistemaAddict · 03/10/2020 19:41

Walked up to my mum's (3 mile round trip), baked bread, had a movie afternoon, did laundry, ds jumped in lots of puddles. I'm rounding off the day with toast and reading.

MarcelineMissouri · 03/10/2020 19:41

We should have gone to ds tennis lesson this morning and we had slot booked for a NT place this afternoon. Instead we have done precisely nothing (except for me going to my gym class) The dc have been on their iPads or watching films all day, dh has been doing a puzzle and I’ve been pottering and catching up on bake-off. Very lazy. It’s supposed to be similar weather tomorrow but we’ll have to get out or I’ll go mad from lack of fresh air!

MarcelineMissouri · 03/10/2020 19:42

Oh just to add the tennis lesson was cancelled, we didn’t just decide not to go!

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2020 19:45

Agree with MrsMary - I can go all day without going into town now, never used to be like that - I used to march the kids into town on a saturday for a trip to the library, a bimble round the shops, hot choc at the cafe in our local dept store, pick up a few bits and pieces, go to the swings if the weather was ok. Now I feel like we have turned into real homebodies.

Today I have done 3 loads of washing, did a sort of the kids' school uniform (how are they already growing out of stuff, it's only a month in?!), listened to the kids' music practice, made banana bread with DS2, let them turn the family room into a Lego and board game bombsite which I will have to get them to tidy tomorrow, had a short walk in the rain with the dog, a long walk later when the rain cleared up. Pizza for dinner, a spot of MNing, and now an exercise video. Then to bed to read "The Adventures of Maud West, Lady Detective" which is non-fiction and brilliant!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/10/2020 19:48

I didn't get up until 1pm.
Since then I've mainly watched crap on the telly whilst painting my nails.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/10/2020 19:55

In the good old days we'd have seen seen another family, gone swimming or gone to some shops on an errand which at least is a change of scenery.

Today we went walking for a drenching because anything else would have been logistically awkward, unpleasant or illegal.

krustykittens · 03/10/2020 20:06

It depends. If the house is a state and laundry needs doing, it gets done. But if not, we snooze, read and watch films. Isn't that what rainy days at the weekend are for? Although we have a lot of rain forecast over the next few days so I shall also be re-tiling the bathroom! I tend to schedule DIY for boughts of bad weather.

Nquartz · 03/10/2020 20:21

DD had her swimming lesson as usual, we watched a film & we popped to drop off a birthday present. Way too much tv around all that as well unfortunately!

Tomorrow we're going to IKEA just for something to do indoors which doesn't feel too germ-y.

All the normal indoors rainy day stuff just doesn't appeal at the mo (cinema, soft play, climbing etc)

APurpleSquirrel · 03/10/2020 20:21

I went food shopping whilst DH took DC to an outdoor group in the rain (they puddle splashed, made bird feeders etc); had my flu jab & then a long hot bath this afternoon. Don't feel guilt at all.

gingercat02 · 03/10/2020 20:28

Sweet fa! Watched telly, gamed, ate, did 2 loads of washing, read. Ordered fish and chips for tea on Just Eat, had to unlock the front door to get it lol. DH and DS are watching football I'm watching SCD

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/10/2020 20:34

Had the car fixed, taken ds for his flu vaccination and done some more decorating!

I really wish I’d chosen to do nothing instead!

CherryPavlova · 03/10/2020 20:36

Today. Swim. Walk dog. Pop to Waitrose. Coffee with three friends at one of their houses. Cook a more interesting supper than usual. Laundry. Hot tub with husband. Sewed some trousers for my daughter. Spoke to children. Unpacked supermarket delivery.

FippertyGibbett · 03/10/2020 20:38

I watched a Christmas film on Sky and had a wardrobe clear out.

Swishswish26 · 03/10/2020 20:43

Took DD to swimming lessons. Home for lunch then drove into town as DD wanted her ears pierced. Wander round the shops for a few hours then home for dinner.

CoronaBollox · 03/10/2020 20:48

Well since it's illegal to have fun these days, sod all. I did take DD out in the garden during the heavy rain. She likes to jump in the puddles peppa the fucking pig fault

I used to feel guilty not having something planned for every day. But since we all got grounded, I just enjoy the terrible twos, setting up fun games to be told no, not being allowed to join in stage. Its great.

someone please help me
