I joined the gym recently and the treadmill has made me notice something odd

My left leg seems to take a longer stride than my right leg and it makes me feel a bit lopsided! What does this mean? Are my legs different lengths? Confused I think I've only noticed it because the treadmill is so flat and straight, there's no 'terrain' as such.

Most people are asymmetrical to some extent. I always wear the heal down on my right shoe but not my left and I’ve been told that is the reason.

Most people have a small leg length difference. Ideally get yourself down to a posh running shoe shop that can analyse your gait and recommend what kind of shoe or orthotic would help. But only if it's causing you to risk injury. In my experience most cheap trainers are as good as pricey running shoes.

You'd be surprised how many people have different legs of different lengths! Generally you will be fine but if are running a decent milage a week/it's a significant difference then you may want to consider gait analysis and orthotics.

Some treadmills can also feel funny if the belt is worn/they are cheaper.
